Message: over the weekend i put my intense intake on. I have run it now for about 300 miles and am still waiting for an improvement. Saw a definate MPG increase!! Truck just seems slower now. it ran better in my opinion with the custom job i did on the factory air box. I took the elbow off, ran a straight run of dryer vent aluminum tube to a custom air box that brought in air from removing the flap at the grille. It doesn't suck in any hot air from the engine. This new intense seems too vulnerable to the engine heat, have a 9" big mouth on, plus the intense is made from stainless steel, i felt it and it was HOT!!! Doesn't this affect the air coming in? I'm gonna get killed for saying this i'm sure but how many people think that cold air intakes are overated? I mean i know you have to do other mods to feel the difference but the truck should not be sluggish after putting the thing on. And can someone explain to me why the filter are better when they are dirty, wouldn't you want it to be as clean as possible for good airflow. I am completely illiterate when it comes to all this high performance stuff. thanks

Message: dont quote me on this because i dont own a intense CAI but i believe the intake tube on them is ceramic coated on the inside... which would prevent that heat you are feeling on the outside of the tube to heat up the inside.

Message: Probably the main reason you havent noticed a gain is becuase either you didnt reset your computer, or if you did reset it it hasnt fully adjusted yet. If you didnt reset your computer you need to. The filter will take a while to get a little dirty, that will also help. I felt a difference the minute I put mine on. Probably the computer. Let us know how it turns out.

Message: It's just what I like to call Visual Horsepower.
If it REALLY made an improvement why wouldn't it come from the factory like that? You think that if Dodge or whomever could justify an "X" amount of horsepower/torque increase just by changing the air tube or filter they wouldn't do it?!
Yeah, it looks better, probably sounds cool when you step on it (or you can just flip your cap on the stock one upside down like we used to do "back in the day" and get the same sound), but as far as real USEABLE power I seriously doubt it. Maybe on a dyno in controlled circumstances at top RPM but that aint real world baby!!

well there are a few things to keep in mind here... they put in the crappy fram filters or whatever because they are cheap. The factory box is set up with a ribbed hose and elbow on the air box to minimize intake noise, not add performance.
"Dodge" makes these engines not to perform the best in power, but in noise control and pollution.
There can be a noticable amount of power over a good quality cold air intake and the factory hardware... my personal favorite was the mopar cold air intake.

Message: I did not reset the computer, always thought that if you drive it long enough, it would adjust. it is going on 400 miles now and still running the same, just real doggy!! Intense is not coated on the inside of the pipe, it is raw stainless steel, in fact when i got mine, there was rust or some kind of build up from sitting in the warehouse or wherever it was sitting. i just wiped it down with wd40. the outside is ceramic coated. i think i'm gonna take the thing off and sell it!! i would like more opinions if anyone's got them, thanks.

Message: Just adding an intake will not show much of an improvement. The whole idea is to get more air in and out to create better performance. You are getting more air in but you are restricted by your exhaust in getting it back out. Want to see a difference, do the following, I have done these already and have noticed quite a large difference, BTW my truck is a 2002 CC 3.9L SXT 4x4 Auto with 3.92 gears.
Intense Intake Stage II 7" Big Mouth filter
Dynomax Super Turbo #17748
Autolite Platinum AP3923 plugs
With just those 3 mods together, helped a great deal. I am in the process of getting a throttle body that is ported, then I should be done for a little while.

Message: Ernie,
With those three mods, especially the plugs, you've got to be making at least 315 HP at the crank! J/K
CCman,
If you had a nice home brew, why would you waste your money on a product, that probably doesn't do as well as your homebrew? Did I miss something here?

Message: Good question Texas Todd, i don't know why i spent the money for an intake. I guess i just thought that anything manufactured through a company had to be better than something i rigged myself, you know what i'm saying? Well, i'm taking it off and sending it back to intense performance, John guarantees your money back in 30 days if your not satisfied, and I'm not!! I know you're not gonna notice much of an improvement by adding an intake, but you should not notice any kind of loss unless simply your truck does not like it!! And I think that the only way your gonna get a BIG improvement is with nitro. I have tried all the mods that have been suggested and they did not make any kind of significant change, just for the record. Not saying anyone is wrong, just saying my truck in particular makes no difference, the 3.9 sucks, should have gotten the 4.7!!

Message: Texas Todd,
Save the remarks for someone who cares.
I am giving an honest opinion on what worked for me, if you don't like it that is fine. I never said it produces 315hp...it gives you a lot better response and much better high end for passing. Get real, what are you 16???
Anyway, if you want to give the 3.9 a nice lift over stock you cannot go wrong with an intake, whether it be K&N, a homebrew, or the Intense Performance. The intense worked nicely in my case. The plugs and the dynomax helped rather well too. Like I said, you cannot expect to notice a lot from one performance mod, but put a few together, and you won't be disappointed.
If you feel like you need a 4.7 then buy one...why waste time posting here.
