Subject: ROUGH 1/4 mile times IP: Logged
Message: I have, as some of you know, a bone ugly stock dakota, 2001. 3.9L, nothing fancy at all. I skimped on it. Cheap, really.
Well, tonight, I was bored. Grabbed my racing gloves, hat, a coffee and a stop watch. Went out to a secret place, and thought, it's cold out, it's starting to snow, might as well find out now. I have NEVER timed my 1/4 mile.
I looked at the 210lbs. of sand I have in the box. I think, I'll just leave the gate up and the sand in, just for sh*ts and giggles.
Here they are, my VERY ROUGH 1/4 mile times:
run 1: 15.6
run 2: 15.9
run 3: 15.4
I have done nothing to this truck. Is this good? Consider the weight in the back, gate up, no tonneau, and I'm driving INTO the wind. I saw the "snow tunnel" driving that fast.

Message: The actual times for our (I have the same) setup is supposed to be in the 17's. Sucks but true. With a few mods though you could almost keep up with the V8's. You know it's funny, when I look at modified V8's they run 13's and 14's. But I have also seen modified V6's (slightly more mods but not much) do the same. www.dragtruk.com has a V6 auto CC that does 11.something. Pretty damn sweet.

Go to www.dragtruk.com and click the 1/4 mile times. Nick's v6 should be listed in the 11 second bracket, along with his mods.

Message: I raced my bud (an 626) and we're even, he runs 16.5 mostly. His has few mods, IAT, cold air, custom exhaust w/ cat back.
He's the one I took in a race, he took the other race. We run all the time, and we're pretty dead even, so is it safe to assume I can run 16.5's?

Message: I've got a 2001 3.9, 5speed, 4x4 and only managed to run a 17.9 at 75(if i remember the mph correctly.) And that's mostly because of wheelhop. How do you guys get rid of that?
Anyway...if you go with stock figures, 175hp at the crank, comes down to about 135-138 at the wheels. My truck weighs 4220 with me in it and 1/2 tank of gas. The best scientifically possible time is a 17.5 or 17.6.

Message: Vince, I went with a new rear suspension to get rid of wheel hop; ladder bars, coil overs, drag shock, panhard bar, etc. lot of money but the wheel hop was terrible!! Plus now the truck leaves one beautiful black mark about 80 feet long
(no nitrous) with the fat and too tall 275/60/15 I have! Believe me, I did it in the parking lot (cement not asphalt) at the store I work at and measured it.

Message: Wow! I'm surpised anybody could leave a strip like that with an auto! Tell me though...do you have a 4x4? And do your suspension changes let the truck still handle nicely on the road? The Dakota's one of the best handling Trucks out there, I wouldn't want to screw with that!

Message: I don't have a 4x4. Handles great, even better. My ride is pretty rough, though, but that's because of the drag shocks. There's another thing you could look at that will not change your ride; summitracing has compitition engineering traction bars for are trucks now. They aren't the old wussy style slap the leaf kind, they bolt up to the front leaf perch (with the leaf) and bolt to the axle with replacement
u-bolts. nifty idea. cost around $320 dollars. One of the car shows on TNN put a set on one of their mustangs and was pretty easy.
hope this helps!
