Message: If you make it out of PVC it will work for a while, but this spring when it warms up outside all of your handy work will be for naught as the PVC will melt as the underhood temps rise. Also something to keep in mind from my high school chemistry class, if the PVC catched fire it will give off chlorine gas. Chlorine gas was known as mustard gas durring WWI and is deadly or can permanantly scare your lungs and cause all sorts of lung problems.

Message: The reason for the lung damage is that the chlorine combines with the water in you lungs and creates HCL (hydrocloric acid) nasty stuff.

Message: I have a PVC intake, and I ran it all last summer with no problems whatsoever. I bought 2 45 degree elbows, about 2 feet of pipe, some pvc cement, a filter, and a can of black hi-temp paint. Still looks like new, no melting or anything. And it works well too. But everything depends on where you live and how you drive. I drive around town and on the highway here in NJ, I don't really offroad or tow, and the outside temp very rarely gets as high as 95 F. If I lived in Arizona, I would probably think differently.
I couldn't find the fernco elbow anwhere around here, so I used the stock accordian tube like the air-raid intake does. 3" PVC will fit inside the tube with a little persuasion. Then you just custom cut the rest to put the filter as close to the grill as you can. I zip-tied the thing in place (hooked it to the cruise control bracket). Worked good for me, and made a decent improvement in acceleration.

Message: I made mine out of 3" aluminum ducting from home depot. Was about $3.00 for a 36" piece. I just cut off about 12", cleaned up the ends, stuck one end in my existing flex hose off the air hat, and put a filter on the other end. Am going to paint the aluminum piece just to make it look nicer. My truck loves the extra breating. Noticed a difference right away.
