Subject: 3 Inch breather element IP: Logged
Message: I use an elderbrock 10 inch breather with a 10 X 2 inch element. I was wondering if I could go to a 3 inch high element. Is there enough clearance, has anyone done this. Also do they make a screw down rod thats longer then the stock one or an extention. Thanks

Message: What year truck? I know on my '96 i had plenty of room. I put a cowl induction hood scoop on and i had to put a 5 inch spacer in to make it sick up through the hood, but right know i'm running an Edelbrock Pro-Flo air cleaner with the foam K&N filter.

Message: I just installed my F&B 48mm TB on Sunday, then on Monday (yesterday) I put on the same Edlebrock 10x2" ProFlo air cleaner. There are many companies including Accel (DualFoam) and K&N that make 10x3" filter elements. I think there would be a clearance problem at the front edge with a 3" element and the stock hood, as mine has about 3/4-1" clearance at the front edge of the top cover. Also, you have to think about mounting, basically buying a threaded rod or something of the like and setting it in the right place and high up enough to clamp it all together.
Let me as you this, Dirkota, do you have your IAT relocated? The Edelbrock ProFlo 10" air cleaner has a second port besides the one that goes to the PCV valve, and I went ahead and knocked it out. Since it was getting dark and I had to go to my parents' house for X-mas stuff, I went ahead and put my IAT back in the manifold. There would have to be wiring work done, also the hole in the air cleaner is slightly larger than the threads on the IAT sensor. Some slight modification or drilling of a new hole would be required, but since I already knocked it out because I THOUGHT it would fit I'm kinda stuck finding a way to get it put in there.
Just my 2 cents...

Message: I did relocate my IAT but I extented it with some 16 g wire into the now useless old filter element box where it gets cool air passed over it all the time. I got some of that black wire cover stuff at local u pull a part and wrapped it around wire, looks stock. I AM GOIN TO LOK AT THAT OTHER KNOCK OUT YOU WERE TALKIN ABOUT, MIGHT BE AN IDEA. Thanks

Message: Dirkota,
I removed all of the stock airbox and it now resides quietly in my shed, along with the 3" pipe that worked as my intake for a while. Makes a nice hole on that side of the motor... with enough cash you could fill it with a nice turbocharger!
The part number for the Edelbrock model I have is (I think) 1008, 10" chrome air cleaner. It has a small piece of chrome pipe on one side for the PCV valve (for which I used 1/2" automotive heater hose to connect) and the knock-out piece is exactly opposite that pipe. The air cleaner was purchased at AutoZone for the princely sum of $19.99. The heater hose cost me an additional $1.98 (0.99/ft.). It makes a NICE growl when you rev it too...
