Message: Use an impact gun to zip it off. Or maybe put the truck in gear, put the brake on and block the wheels then try to bust it loose with a breaker bar. It's probably torqued to a couple hundred lb/ft, not to mention the rust factor.

Message: If you are just trying to get the crank pully off, you should not have to undo the damper bolt. Once the 6 bolts are off use a rubber mallet to tap the pully off. If you are taking the damper off as well that bolt is only torqued to 135 ft lbs. I used a pair of vise grips clamped on the damper and a wrench with a rubber mallet to knock it loose.

Message: You should NEVER use a hammer on the actual damper (or vise grips and a pry bar). You can break or damage it. Use a balancer puller to pull it off.
You can find these for under $50 at PepBoys/AutoZone/NAPA etc., or you can rent them for about $10.00.
The pulley is a simple: remove bolts and tap it to loosen up the gunk holding it to the balancer.

Message: I need to know how to keep the damper from turning off TDC, I can't seem to keep the flywheel from turning, and by the way it was a pain just to get the cover off the bell housing. I have 1991 v-6 Automatic Dakota.

Message: AHHH THE RETCHID PULLY BOLT U can use a strap tool to hold it depending on how rusted the dam thing is the way I got it off my 71 cutlass took a conduent pipe cut it to length so that with the ratchet in the pipe, the ratchet and pipe would reach the ground. But u also should wedge a piese of wood in front(on flat face of wrench if possible) to keep from popping off. then with wrench in place on ground Crank the engine (short small cranks) . may take 3 or 4 tries to find right wedge. finally mine came off( Key is keeping the wrench on and being able to crake engine ( do not hold pipe with any human body part this is risky as is)

Message: Why don't you use the CORRECT tool for the job, it's called a
harmonic balancer puller. It's simple to use. You don't need to
practice voodoo or have a friend who is a gorilla with a freaking
pry bar to get it off. Some stores like Kragen rent these tools.
