Subject: elecrtric turbo? IP: Logged
Message: has anyone out there actually used an electric turbo on their dak? I get the concept, put a high flow fan inline with the intake, turn it on and, get more hp/tq, or kick yourself in the rear for wasting money? what are the thoughts on this one?

Message: ive never heard of that... how can you match the velocity of air being sucked in by the engine with a little electric fan... the engine sucks a lot of air really fast that is y SC are belt driven to get te rpm's necessary youd prolly just blow the fan... lol way too many sexual inuendos

Message: I have seen a centrifugal blower powered by an electrical motor, don't know who makes it. It only gave about 4 psi of boost max. You'd probably need a 200 amp alternator and an extra battey so that'll kill most of the gains anyway.

Message: if you're referring to those fine pieces of machinery lurking on ebay, they're flying pieces of horse sh.t. It takes power to make power, so a fan of that concept (centrifugal or inline) that would actually work would require over 200 amps to make even a few psi. Especially when you consider that you can buy that same part from a boat supply store for less than a fifth of what it goes for on ebay. The centrifugal is an AC blower motor for in-cabin air conditioners, and the inline is a vent motor for engine compartments. $35 and $20, respectively

Message: Dont even waste your money, putting a electric fan in your intake won't do a thing. The size fan that you would have to use to fit inside your intake wouldnt have the cfm to make a change i/e "boost".

Message: hehe... my boss was talking about something like that earlier... "why can't I just hook up a hairdryer that blows cold air into the throttle body? Why not hook 3 of them up together"

Message: LOL That was exactly what I was thinking but wanted another opinion. If some one had really tried one I was interested in how well it worked. What I don't understand is that the manufacturer of those fans only rate them at 113-175 cfm max! but those guys on e-bay state 450 cfm? Hmmm... I've heard of funny math but this is a little much! Thanks guys!
