There is a huge load put on the engine when you turn the steering to full lock. There is a sensor that tells the engine to compensate for this and kick up the idle. It should not be shaking though.

What do you mean 'the engine shakes'? I'm just curious... is it with the hood up or what?

The computer -should- kick the idle up after a moment to compensate for the drag, but they tend to lag a bit (small amount of shakage that goes away). The engine -can- and -will- move a bit on it's mounts, thats what they are designed for (Besides holding the engine in I mean), to absorb vibration from the engine. The 3.9L has a rough idle in the first place, but sitting stopped at idle with the hood up and not turing the wheel, you shouldn't notice much more than a tremor.

If your holding the wheel hard to the stops, the engine might not kick up the idle enough to stop the shake. When your turning the wheel and it stops, let off on your pressure a bit, don't continue to hold it hard against the stop. It's not good for the power steering pump.
