Message: I found your post about being able to rip a burnout now interesting. Before you installed the throttle body, did it not burn out at all. That's the stage I am at. I am not speaking of power-braking. I just want to know about hitting the gas off the line. My 92 Dakota 3.9 CC will not do anything. Not even a chirp. I realize it is heavier, but will a V8 throttle body allow me to get a fairly good burnout? Maybe leave some black marks for a few feet.

Message: Well, I did the cap, wires, plugs, CAI, IAT Muffler, and it seemed quite more responsive, but still had problems spinning the tires, cept while turning. After the power crank and V8 TB, done a few days apart. It will spin them VERY easy now in a strait shot unless I'm on new pavement. I also redid my exaust system about a week later and it took away power, but thats cause my cat was SHOT. Trust me, go to car-parts.com, find one around same year as yours for 50-70 bux, get a new cable. You wont be disappointed.

Do you mean distributor cap?
What is a CAI?
Did you just relocate the IAT sensor, or did you buy the IAT adjuster? Do you think the IAT adjuster is worth it?
I can spin my tires on turns, but I have to be moving a little fast and turning fairly sharp.

Message: 92Dak, jack your truck up by the center of the rear and then put it in neutral, spin one wheels and see if the other spins in the same direction.
I am suspecting you truck came with the tow
package and you have a anti spin rear diff.
Even as heavy as your Dak is it should at least chirp but it wont if its locking up both tires without enough power.
If none of the above is the case than you may want to do all the checks I mentioned before (compression and leakdown) because your engine just dont seem to be up to snuff.
To give you an idea I just bought a 96 Dak V6 to work out of, I have about 1500lbs in it and I can spin A tire. Dont think I could if it was anti spin though.

Message: Its a 97 ccs. I physically moved the the IAT. I noticed a better response on mid to upper end, and no offense, but I would not buy the plug in adjuster. A CAI is a cold air intake, Your stock air intake system is quite restrictave. Their are a few post on how to do a home made one. OO, and cap=distrib cap and rotor with brass terminals, sorry about confusion my short cuts.

No, FazDak, its not limited slip or anything. One wheel turns the opposite direction of the other. It is a 3.55 rear-end. You do realize that I have an automatic, right?
The thing I don't understand is that everytime I burn out and leave marks, its ALWAYS two marks.
Thanks for the info about the distributor cap and rotor. They replaced mine at a mechanic shop and I seemed to notice a decrease in power than what I had before. Where can I get a brass one at? As long as it runs cheap.
I haven't heard much good stuff about the IAT adjuster, so I guess I will pass on it.
It sounds like the throttle body should be my next mod.

Message: 180 stat should be at any parts store. Go to a better parts store like napa, o'rileys, etc for the brass cap/rotor. It will run a tad more then a reg cap, but well worth it. It last longer, and holds a higher current then others. Look into a power pully or the TB for your next mod. Let me know what you find and what you think.

Message: hey i have a newer model (2000) with a 3.9 just did a litle work .. moved ait, cooler plugs, air intake from intense performance, dual exhaust--just a single in glass pack with dual outs--, accel 8 mm plug wires, for now cheap cap and rotor button, and i have limited slpi rear and lay 2 good marks usually 20 foot or soo with 275 60 r 15 tires.. i guess it depends on the mods mostly because b4 i couldn't run that good now out running a few v8's...

2 marks for 20 feet with 275's? Awesome! I wish I could do that. Is your truck standard or automatic? Is it a Club Cab? What kind of plugs are you running?
On my exhaust, I have one Magnaflow muffler in place of my stock one. After the muffler, there are a lot of holes in the pipe. (The muffler shop didn't do so good). This wouldn't cause any loss in performance would it? I don't really like the sound of the Magnaflow since it still is obviously a V6 when you get up to 1600 RPM and above. Would any other muffler give me a good increase in performance and sound better?
Dale - I will definately try the new distributor cap and rotor. I hope I notice an increase in performance. After they changed it, I did notice a decrease in performance compared to the stock one.
Did you notice an increase in performance with the 180* thermostat?
My next performance mod will be the throttle body if I can find one for 50-75. I have heard that the truck will run rough for a while afterwards. Is this true?
If I am impressed with the TB, I will go for the pulleys or electric fan, next.

Message: Yes, it will idle ruff for a little while. One you get it on, turn the truck on, DO NOT hit any peddles. Let it idle for about 5 min, then take it for a drive. The 180 stat helps keep the engine bay colder, their for getting colder air to the engine, and it also helps the AC be a tad colder also. Also forgot to mention the autolite 3923 plugs. I didnt notice to much power, but deff got some better mpg outta them. Might want to look into them while you do the cap/rotor.
