Subject: Bad Oil Pressure Sensor? IP: Logged
Message: Hello all. I have a 98 Dak 3.9, and it seems like my Oil Pressure Sensor may be going bad. At times, my gauge will drop to nothing, and the "check gauges" light comes on. Then 30 seconds later, it shoots back up to normal. Anyone else think of anything that might be up????

Message: I wish i knew what was causing it because my 1997 3.9 dakota does the exact same thing. it will ride at about 60 psi while im on the gas but if i idle it drops to about to 40 and some times zero. ive changed the oil pressure sending unit three times already. each time its corrected the apparent problem but only for about four months or so before it starts acting up again.

Message: Trust me it's not the GUAGE!!! My 91 used to do that, it was the oil pump.
$2600 later I had the blown V6 replaced with a 318.
IT'S NOT THE GUAGE!!!!!!!

Message: This "no pressure" incicent has happened to me twice now. As I recall both times I just made a quick jerking left turn of the steering wheel. Since this happened days ago, it has been fine.
So if it is the oil pump, does that mean that the engine is not getting re-supplied with oil? And if the light is on and the gauge reads 0, should I hear a difference in the sound of the engine... maybe loss of HP???? Please respond, as I dont want to blow up my engine (but wait... then I could get a 318.... HMMMMMMM) Thanks for taking the time to answer my followup questions.
