Subject: 88 3.9 stalling/fuel build up IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 88 automatic Dakota with 160,ooo
on it last night...Test drove went great. Ran good
and shifted great. However on my way home which
was 50 miles I got it on the highway and sped up
to speed no problems, let off to make an off ramp
and turn and it stalled out. I pulled over and had
to hold it to the floor to clear it out and get it
running, then it was fine. Started driving again
and was fine until the next stop sign and same
thing. Made it home and just down shifted before
stopping and it was fine. I'm pretty mechanically
inclined and work on all my own stuff but usually
work on carburetor vehicles. Just curious what it
could be. O2 sensor? plugs, wires, cap? kinda new
the to throttle body stuff and first gen dakotas

Message: Try checking codes first before just throwing money at like our
government does to try to fix anything.

Message: Well I dumped a bottle of seafoam in it and it got
better after that so I topped off the tank and added
another bottle of it and now it runs like a top. I
should have suspected this after all this ethanol
junk we run now.
