Subject: tension pulley/belt IP: Logged
Message: I have a 04' Dakota w/ 3.7L V6. I get a knocking noise when the truck is running(esp. when its cold)The noise is appears to be originating from the tension pulley. I have replaced this twice in the last couple of months. After I replaced the belt, the noise disappeared for a few days but it started up again. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and if something on this engine gets notoriously out of alighnment and destroys the belt.

Message: With the engine at idle take a look down from the
side see if any pulleys wobble.

Message: none of the pulleys are wobbling. It only makes noise for 2-3 minutes on initial startup and seems to be more obvious when you turn the wheel.

Message: It doesnt scrap the belt. It still works and looks pretty good. However, when you replace the belt, it takes care of the initial startup noise for about a week. I'm not sure if its really a big deal but I dont want to let it go if something is gradually breaking down. Thanks for your help.

Message: Maybe you're putting on the wrong size belt? Usually tensioner knock when they get near the end of their travel. So if the belt you've got is longer than it's supposed ot be the tensioner would knock.
