There is a splice in the wiring about 6" below the underhood
fusebox. It's 3 wires into one, red, red/white. This splice
corrodes over time. It feeds power to the PCM, fuel pump and
ignition. It can cause intermittent stalling and no start. Check it
doesn't cost anything to repair it. Just clean it up, preferably,
solder it together.

most likely the idle air control valve is bad, buy
a new one for 30 bucks and slap it on should solve
the problem

If it is misfiring mostly when under a load then probably it is ignition related - coil, wires distributor, plugs, etc. It should be triggering a code that may pinpoint the problem.

my '97 dakota 3.9L v6 runs 20-30 miles and decides to cut off at highway speeds of 40,50,60...drifts and cuts back on with misfires etc. and always loud backfires.or, won't cut back on and i have to coast to side/road and sit for 10,15 minutes and it starts back up and rolls on another 20-30 miles and does it again. any suggestions for repairs, parts installs, etc.????thanks from new member....already put in new coil. no help.
