Subject: rattleing sound at bogging IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 99 dakota sport auto 3.9 with 31x10.50s reg cab and when you start to go up a hill and the motor bogs slightly it makes a rattling sound kinda like a loose heat guard or thin metal material but i have found nothing loose yet and it possibly may be the valves clinging but not sure, any ideas?

Message: Probably pinging. Could be the belly pan gasket going bad. Try some mid grade or premium fuel.

Message: If it is pinging, it will be most noticeable when the engine is under a load.

Message: It's pinging. Use a higher octane gas.
Use a synthetic 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil.

Message: On which oil to use, that is totally a matter of personal preference. Follow the manual for recommended weights. Personally, my oil of choice is Valvoline dino. I used to use their 30w Super HPO for my climate(Deep South) in all of my vehicles. Now I use their 10w-30. Both of my vehicles are over 100k and I don't use their Hi-Mileage oil. I have been using Valvoline for over 25 yrs and have never had any complaints with it.
All I can tell you is research, research, research and make an imformed decision on which one YOU want to use.
