Subject: Where to buy exhaust manifold bolts? IP: Logged
Message: I meant to say on my last post that I have the factory exhaust manifold on my 3.9 v6, 2000 model if that makes any difference and now I'm trying to find bolts to fix it. I was told not to buy the ones from the factory and now I can't find any good ones that are cheap. I saw some listed on autozone under the "help" section with parts that are sometimes hard to find and it listed some for my truck but I don't know if they are good and the right size. Any suggestions would be nice.

Message: i would go to dodge unless oriely has them. you can use the help studs but remeber. there are 2 different treaded lengths of stud on the 3.9. this is for the heat sheilding. then there are 2 regular bolts 1 stud with 1 inch threaded for engine 1 stud that is threaded different than that. go ahead and replace the clamp bolts also there are 2 of them on each side that connect the precats to the manifold.

Message: may sound crazy, but I bought mine at home depot. They sold hardened bolts that matched my manifold bolts. Exactly the same, $2.69 each.

Message: All hardware stores will have hardened bolts. I would advise against it without good mesurements. Last thing you want to do is break a bolt off in the head. Thread angles also may not be correct and you can bust the threading in the orfice itself. Also the case of the bolt may not penetrate as deep in the material its self. Of course the bolt could also be too hard. Todays automotive engineering is a delicate ballance of material quality vs price, availabilty, and applications. This helps keep cost down, But also provides future maintenance issues. Take for instance the 3.9 head bolts should be replaced at 100k I do believe and also if they are removed as they have stretched.
Aarp has a fastener line at most automotive stores that can provide anything needed on your truck along with the "Help" parts.
Now i would always prefer that all exhaust studs or bolts be replaced whenever they are removed. they soften overtime thru a process refered to as anealing heating up then cooling down slowly. With age and rust you can almost bet on pulling a head and using an easyout to remove the broken bolt you could have replaced for 2 bucks. Ohh man I forgot you used bolt that was too hard and the drillbit walked and ruined the head.
OH WELL!!!
