Message: ok so im about to throw the motor from the 93 in my 96 dakota with the shot trans. i jsut want to thank every one who responded to my previous post. now i have anothr problem thank you for j and j for pointing out. aperantly the trans is difrrent from 93 to 96 wich i thought but wast sure. now im strapped for cash obviously or i woulda just bought a new dakota. maybe some one can help me figure out wat is wrong with the r e trans and i can re use it and just swap out the 93s motor seeing as were its less millegage and dont sound like the valves are attacking the pistons at high speeds. any way the trans only works if you manualy shift it from first to second. if you put it in drive it will stay in first. also reverse has only worked once while i had the truck. since then ive had to have some one get out and push me in my drive way or into a parking spot. i no its really not worth it to put all this work into eather of these trucks. but im strapped on cash as is every one trying to get threw college in the spring and i need a ride ontop of that my dads car blew up thats what he gets for buying jap crap i guess so im stuck playing the family taxi. lol. so if any one has any suggestions let me know. the dakota im puting this all into is mint. no rot anywere. well the tailgate but thats it. other then that its solid. thank you every one in advanced for your help

Message: Try servicing it first. Fresh fluid and filter can work wonders. Just make sure to use the ATF+4 fluid for Mopars. If not they will act up. There is also an additive that Larry @ J & J recommends. Trans RX maybe, not sure but he said, whatever name, it was good.
