Message: Fed,
Just curious have you seen any perfomance improvement going to the 50mm TB over the F&B 48mm. Thats what I have on my truck.
Wadak
92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

with my discount, less than 10 bucks!
wadak,
i still need to bore the throttle bores in my intake manifold to 50mm to really get the benefit of the 50mm tb and i havent done that yet. the only thing i could tell from the swap right now is the louder hissing noise! haha
did you notice anything?

Message: very nice Wadak!
have you dynoed your 3.9? track times maybe?
i love to see guys with modded 3.9s
It was Larry who influenced me to do my 3.9 build. If it wasnt for him, I would have went with a 5.2 swap!
well, I got my spare intake manifold and im gonna port it out and bore the throttle bores to 50mm to see what kind of gains i get with the 50mm TB. Wadak, what did you have ported on your intake manifold?
thanks!

Message: Going to a 50mm to get the gains you have to open
the manifold bores
You will gain around 10 to 12hp 3000rpm on up really works well with nitrios or forced induction
you will see big gains like around 25hp over the
48mm
The 48mm F&B I was looking at Bruce's site can
flow 710cfm I was under the impression that it
was 660cfm

Message: right on larry! along with cutting the runners down to 12", im going to fill the intake with epoxy right up the the end of the runners just like the Hughes Engines stage II porting... would you recomend that Larry? i was told it would increase pressure therefore increasing air flow...

Message: Fed,
How has the 50mm worker out for you. I did open my intake manifold to 50mm. I forgot to add that I did port match the intake manifold to the heads and cleaned up the runners and fuel injector inlets. One thing I have found was a torque loss on the low end while going bigger than 48mm. Most of my driving includes short spurs of driving up to 3500 rpm then mostler below that on the freeway and arounf town.
I kknow that you want to maximize your horsepower, just something to consider.

Message: filling the intake decreases the volume and
will raise vac and help low end that is why
hughes engines does that
There are some trucks that when you shorten the
runners they lose some low end torque or using
a V8 body some experiance a low end loss
For most the low end remains the same
What Fed is doing is moving the power band higher
into the rpm range but at the same time power
at higher rpm's will also increase
Once you do this you will need to tweak the a/f
and timming as he is also doing with the custom
flashing of the comp, if you do lots of moding
the std custom flash a lot of times is not right
and not enough to run it righ it takes a little
time to tune them in than they run great
When you get this far down the road the dyno is
your best option with a tunner right there as you
make your pulls and it will pay off big time
