Message: Hello, I have a 1997 Dakota w/air conditioning and am just wondering how diffucult it would be to replace the water pump. Perhaps if someone could offer me a timetable and difficulty level, that would be great. Thank You!!

Message: not to come off like a smart@ but, your level of difficulty and mine are probably different. to me it's not difficult at all to change out the pump. time consuming because of the amount of stuff you've got to remove to get to it. probably about 2-3 hrs.
change the tstat and that troublesome little bypass hose while you're at it.

Message: John, daddio is correct, its not that hard, just time consuming. every bracket on the engine is connected to the water pump so everything needs to come off. If you have never done something like that before I would suggest you take notes as you take it a part so you will know where everything goes when you put it back together.
The bolts are different lenghts as well so I mark them so I won't get them mixed up, but I get confused easily. Oh yeah, you don't have to literly take everything off, just unbolt and move enough to get the old pump off, and the new one back on.
Good Luck
