Message: no tune ups have been performed. i did remove the cap today and it looks brand new the rotor did have some wear to the end of it. i pulled the plugs the other day and they looked brand new maybe a slight brown or slight white. too hot im guessing. i also checked the crank shaft. i turned it and the rotor moved but only after the crank had moved a little. so the timing chain does have some slop but not alot. i think this is some sort of computer problem or well im not really sure. when its cutting out really bad. just shut the key off and restart it and it picks back up and goes again for about a block or two. then it shuts down again. ialso checked the dist for up and down and side to side movement on the shft. it had very little.

Message: Definitely sounds like an electrical issue. You need to find out, when it dies if it's losing spark or fuel or both. You might want to get a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual if you don't have one and see if that #115 splice is in the wiring diagram. Check it out and repair it. I know on some of the later models like 91-95, that splice going bad causes similar symptoms to what you're getting.

Message: i have part of a wiring diagram here and i can get the rest of it. what is this 115 ? is it a connector or something the factory or dealer rigged up. where on the truck would it be located at? its not lossing fuel when it boggs out and tries to die. it is almost more like it is flooding but it isnt flooding. but when you shut it off and get out you can seem to smell unburn fuel. throttle bodies are so new to me. i am still used to working on carbs.

Message: Splice #115 is something the factory did. It's 3 wires spliced to one larger wire. Re & red w/ white stripe are the colors I think. I't down in the wiring harness under the PDC. About 6-0 inches down from the PDC. You'd have to peel the wire loom and tape back.
Now, like I said earlier, your year truck may not have it. You did say it only does this when warming up right? It could have something to do with that inoperable EGR valve. Or it could be the engine temp se3nsor I mentioned earlier. You say you did not have any codes? Have you checked again? You can trip a code and not set the MIL/CEL light.

with the 3.9 and somedays it would run great other
times it would just start jumping and bucking and
misfiring then eventually shut off, sometimes start
right back up,other times i'd have to get help
getting it home! after changing alot of parts that
ended up being good turns out while at a friends

motor went to acting crazy with all of the
symptoms i had been having!!! ECM no good,However
a new one was almost 400.00 and I was told it had
to be the same year model but i found one in my
hometown for 25.00 out of a 1993 with a 3.9 and
took the gamble, I haven't had a problem since,
Good Luck..found my ecm on Craigslist( P.S. as a

Message: well i took a shot yesterday. i wanted to see if there was dirt in the tank or maybe a rag or soemthing. or the filter sock was plugged up. i found very minor specs of junk in the bottom of the tank. the sock had a ball of grease it looked like on the bottom side of it. after the sock was cut off of the bottom of the pump there was another screen inside the bottom of the pump. it was fully of black rusty flakes. we changed the pump and the filter and it seems to have fixed it. i was out of money and my dad boguth me the pump. i probabyl would have just cleaned the screen and went with the old pump but my dad hates seeing anyone do stuff twice. fo rmyself this was one of the easiest things i have ever done. the strap botls went even very rusty. thats for those who replied to help me. i will keep driving this rebuitl dodge until it breaks down again next week with something new. so until next week stay tuned to the same bat channel at the same bat time.

Message: Daddio, what page in the Haynes manual shows the diagram with the splice #115 on it? I have the Haynes manual # 30021.
I also have a strange problem with my '98 Dakota. Sometimes I will be driving it around with no problems then I will get a mil light with a code that shows "cyl 4 misfire". I can tell that my engine is actually misfiring but then I will drive another 100 miles and the problem will go away. Back and forth, I have had this problem for about 5 years and since it just goes away, I haven't taken it in for inspection.
I have switched fuel inj #1 with #4 to see if the trouble code changes to "cyl 1 misfire", but it still shows cyl 4 with the problem.
I suspect the computer or maybe the injector's wire from the computer. Maybe you have a suggestion?
Relf.

Message: I think you're on the right track. Check/ clean the injector connectors on both ends.
Also, check the plug wire for #4 and make sure it's not arcing or rubbing on anything. It's musch easier to see bad plug wires at night. I've seen some arcing so bad at night it looked like runway lights at the airport!

Message: I have been having the same issue since acquiring my Dakota. I also have replaced the same things as you and narrowed it down to the O2 sensor or the PCM but was not willing to pursue it because of $$$. I found that I could replicate the problem at will which usually indicates you found the problem. If you go to your PCM while the truck is running jiggle the center connection going to the PCM. If your vehicle dies then this is the issue. Make sure the connection is clean and plugged in more securely. I have put a cable tie around the connection and have not run into this problem again. The MIL kept flashing and coding p0351(ignition coil). Bottom line, check the connection before investing anymore money.

Message: To all the Dodge Dakota
owners with stalling
problems.I have had a
stalling & dieing
problem with my 98
Dakota for over a year.
And I finally figured it
out. I would start the
truck & wiggle the
harness going into the
pcm & it would die. So I
took the 3 harnesses
going into the pcm, I
sprayed them with
contact cleaner.I took
the pcm out ( 3 bolts )
sprayed the pcm
connectors with contact
cleaner. I bought
dielectric grease. Put it
on the connectors pins
on the pcm. I also
loosened the two
torques head screws on
the pcm 1/4 of a
turn.put it all back
together & have been
driving the not out of it.
And it has not died
once. It would die all
the time before. To the
point that it scared me
to drive it.
