napa oil filters

engine (still running great!)
any failures? yes
engine failures or break downs? no!

129,000 fuel pump
155,000 T-stat failed

oil changed every 3000 to 3500 miles

so you tell me
any need for the over priced or gimmick related oil?????????

Well,if this is all about getting better milege,I have an easier soulution.Maybe not a CHEAPER solution but an easier one nonetheless..

I used my Superchips tuner to tell my computer that I have 60 inch tires when they really are only 26.I get MUCH better milage that way!!To heck with all the mods on this site.None of them work like lying to your computer.Of course,in reality you're not really getting any better gas mileage, but are you really getting any extra with synthetic motor oil???
It just makes me feel better to see that I'm getting 26 MPG on the odometer even though I'm totally oblivious to the actual count!!

Hi miles guy,
As a matter of fact, the kind of oil used does make a difference:

1. Had a Sonoma. I used 10W-50 Castrol in it. Switched to Amsoil 0W-30 synthetic. Improvement; 3 MPG.
How do I know? I drive 150 to 350 miles a day as a courier. Pretty easy to divide miles driven by gallons and get accurate average mileage.

2. My Dakota came from the factory with synthetic oil. Maybe it was the only one, but I doubt it.
Perhaps because of the superior lubrication (less friction) of synthetic oil, it was around 100,000 miles before I got my best gas mileage.

3. Said Dakota has 544,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. If nothing else, using Amsoil cost less than using Dino-oil.

jumpoffabridg,

There is a problem on DodgeDakotas. People who neither understand nor appreciate passion and belief and assume that someone exited is spamming, being pushy and trying to get someone to buy something illicit.

We who talk about Amsoil, or Amway for that matter, are sharing information about something; business model, products, good folks to associate with, that works for us and we believe may help improve somebody else's life a bit, as it has ours.

It is an offer. You have every right to refuse, but it is crass, crude and unmannerly to insult someone offering.

I wrote this in another board. Thought it was worth posting here:

Ok, ok, I've seen all the arguments about which is better etc. you can say what ever you want about a product and people suck it up like a dry sponge. I am presently using AMZOIL 5W-30 in my DAK and am using Mobile 1 Extended in my Caravan. The best way to compare them both is to use them, or find someone that is comparing them. I stumbled on this website (http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html) which is presently using people to do the comparisons. My biggest worry about AMZOIL in the study is with it starting out as a 5W-30 and becoming 15W-40 by the 15k miles. In the studies the two oils work pretty close, but you have to read the articles and associated articles to get the whole point. I'm waiting impatiently to see what other tests show. In the mean time, I'm almost ready to change to M-1, because of the cost difference.

'enough' has illustrated two things in the last post;
1. 'enough' has no actual information on Amsoil, Amway and what a 'pyramid scam' is.
2. In my case, 'enough' presumes I want to sell product and/or invite to join.
Amsoil, Amway and all other 'Multi Level Marketing' and 'Network Marketing' businesses are by invitation.
I have not extended an invitation.

I challenged shatto to put his truck in The Allpar 200,000 Mile Club and I have yet to see it there. Maybe he is having trouble with their verification process.

Of the thousands of registered cars and trucks I don't believe their is a single on that gives a type of oil any credit for their longevity. It is far more difficult to put 300,000 miles on a vehicle over a period of 30 years, with no mechanical problems, than it is to put the same number of miles on in 3 years.

owww and most recent (check the other boards)
was either on performance or regular board
Shatto claims to have gone over 500,000 miles on the same brakes!!! lmao
(boy that amsoil is a bigger miracle then previously thought)

the key here is regular scedualed changes

If i never changed my oil it would blow up

with dino at 60,000
with sythetics 100,000

Here is a little true story about my grand father
he drove buicks all his life and at 60,000 about
2 years he would always get a new car he never
never ever changed his oil and this is a fact

His cars would smoke, knock tick and bang than
he would just go buy a new car

What all you need to do is some research on the
true diff between syn and dino

moloclue size
dino all diff and bigger
syn all the same and smaller

the smaller moloclue will penitrate into the tiny
cracks and crevases in the metal and know dont
say these do not exsist just look at even the
finest polished steel under a microscope and
you will see them

what this does is crate a better and stronger
film

this creats less friction and less heat which
reduces wear

less friction means it will move esier this is
where the more power and better gas mileage comes
in makes it run better and last longer

friction and heat is what will destroy any metal
to metal contact

I have seen many vehicles with over 500,000
miles and still running good with both syn and
dino oil as I said reg maintainance is the key

back in the first days when syns came out the
racers would mix there own cocktails they called
them of syn and dino for there motors and it
worked very well for them some were so
particular they would keep this a very big secret
and do it behind closed doors were no one else
could see what they were doing

just a matter of choice why is there all this
fighting and arguing about it, life is to short
the way it is now we need to argue about oil

Who ever said it was right get a life, live and
let live who needs the stress anyway

run what ever makes you happy

As I said in an earlier post its one thing to
recomend using something it another and wrong
to force you opinion onto others and tell them
they are waisting money and not using what you
say they should be

If you don't have a camera....borrow one. Camera's are too common today. Then I will buy Amsoil for the rest of my life w/o questions. End of story.

Here's the conclusion with your mileage Shatto. I did the math.

Running a courier route with 544,000 miles, you would have to be running:

166 Miles per day/ 7 days a week
232.47 Miles per day/ 5 days a week

That's from 1998 running every day at this rate right off the lot. Calculation was from 1998-2007

Prove me wrong.

After all this squabling, I think i have determined that the difference in longevity and price and performance, I will probably switch to M1 from AMZOIL because I don't see it being worth the $3+/Quart plus the hassle in trying to find an AMZOIL dealer every time i want to change or top off my oil. I'm not knocking AMZOIL or promoting M1, just that both seem to be quality Synthetic oils and I haven't seen anything in my vehicles to say one is that much better than the other... just my opinion...But I could be wrong... :)

Red99DakRT,
Steve Roark, to be found sponsoring this site, will make arraingements to get product to you in a timely manner. Big Brown trucks deliver anywhere. (remember, you pay shipping at Kragen or Sears or the dealer)

Chris G., N56629 and others.
1. I tried logging with Allpar, and, as you said, they have a difficult process. I gave up.
2. I tried scanning the oil analysis report and posting it here. Now, the darn scanner bit the dust, but I couldn't figure how to get anywhere but the monitor anyway. Sooner or later I'll learn how to cut-paste-photoshop and all the fun stuff others do.
3. Brake shoes. I asked my mechanic, yesterday, and he said the way to adjust the brakes is to pump them as I backed. Weeellll! Whooda known? Pump the brakes to adjust them! Pedal does seem a tad higher now that I tried it.
4. Chris G. Thanks for the independant calculation. I always guessed 150 to 350 miles a day average.
What is amazing is how easy it is to rack up serious mileage delivering things. For fun, we ought to ask the UPS, Fed-Ex, USPS and other delivery folks what their odometer reads.

Larry, as usual, cuts to reality.

Shatto.....that's talking right off the lot. If you have not owned that truck for instance until 2002, the daily mileage would be a lot higher. Until I see it, I won't believe it. I would try Amsoil if they were in stores. I have yet to see with my 2 eyes any benefit to Amsoil. I'm sorry dude, but I work at a mechanic shop and I see stuff every day. Too many scams going out. Tell the CEO of Amsoil maybe they need to make their products a little more known....as far as I know, I may be buying a dollar store oil in a different container. People are too narrow minded these days, they will fall for anything.

you got a better chance of hearing the truth from a politician before you will from either of the scamsoil clowns!
