Message: I have a 99 club cab V6 3.9L RWD sport. No power locks or windows. Rear open window and nearly new tires. Runs great no problems just under 108K. Trans perfect motor perfect. I just recently got a job about45 minutes each way and for what i am using the truck for (commuter) i think that i could get away with a 4 banger anything. I am really torn up on this. The only problem with the truck is that it has bad paint and would eventually need a repaint no biggie. What would you guys pay for a truck like this. Just wondering and weighing options.
Thanks

Message: I'll help you out.
I bought a 1997 just like yours this year. The paint is peeling off the roof and the front fenders, the drivers side door and fender ( where they meet ) got banged up a little - enough that the door rubs the fender slightly. The engine had a check engine light and had NO power. The guy's dad worked for a dodge dealership.
The stereo worked, but the speakers were blown in the doors. Other than that, the truck was in really good shape for a Minnesota truck. Even came with a rolled pan and split duals. 155k on the truck.
I paid $1700 for the truck, took it home and replaced the 10 amp fuse for the PCM and got the power mostly back, and I have to look further into what has the check engine light on for. I can replace the fender and door, get the check engine light problem fixed and turn around and sell this truck for around $3000 pretty easily.
Depending on the overall truck, I'd say you could fetch another grand on top of that at least.
4x4's up here go for about $5-7000 in our year/mileage range.

Message: Yeah i was hoping for about 4500 or so. Just because the paint is a little screwy doesnt mean it cant be fixed or if necessary used as a work truck. Hey thanks a lot.

Message: One thing about the paint on these trucks from what I was told by a body shop guy I did work for, you have to strip the old stuff off with a water based paint stripper and get it all off in order to get a good paint to adhere properly to the panel. Seems when they switched to waterbased paints, they didn't have the formula quite right and have had a lot of problems ( gee, you think? it's only been happening since the late 80's when the switched, you'd think they would have figured out how to make a good waterbased automotive paint by now. Problem is, they can't. I work with water based polyurethane and oil based polyurethanes for hardwood floors and the oil is far more successful than the water ).
