Message: i think i used a 28" cherrybomb. but dont do it dude, it sounds horrible. it sounds like a ricer, i ended up ripping it off and putting on a dynoax superturbo 3" catback. much much better. but its your truck, if you want to sound like a ricer, go for it. but you will be a disgrace to all dakotas.

The long case muffs the shorty will hum you to
death
little louder than stock quite when crusing
raps under excelleration and just about the
perfect back pressure
If you lower the back pressure to much the low
end torque goes with it

Message: oh, oh, here we go with the back pressure thing again. If a straight thru muff lowers back pressure won't a 3 inch chrome tail pipe also drop back pressure? When do you think so-call back pressure ceases to be of any value? Can I run 4 inch pipe all the way back and then run a 2.5 inch tip? How about a 2 inch tip? After all, that will increase so-called back pressure.

Message: this whole backpressure thing... putting a cat back system on wether it be a free flowing 2.5 system or a 3 inch system can very.... a 2.5 system can flow the same as a 3 inch system just depends on the baffles in the muffler.... a .5 inch isnt really a problem.... if you keep the factory y-pipe with the factory cat theres your back pressure.... the muffler and tails really dont effect backpressure cause of the baffles in the muffler just effects exhaust tone....but one thing is known for the larger exhuast, the more free flowing you make it gotta make for it on the intake side.. the quicker it escapes the quicker you gotta get the air back in there... im runnin the 17748 dynomax which is coming off and taking a trip to scrap pile.... after 3 months my exhuast still sounds stock.... next weekend up in PA at Carlisle i pick up my PYPES Sytem SDD10 system 3inch in but exits to dual 2.5 tails... so i'll post a thread about it in the first week of October...

Message: I put a 40 series delta flow flowmaster on mine, sounds good at idle and up to 2500rpm but above that it sounds a lil foriegn if you know what I mean. I have jba headers, stock y-pipe, no cat, and 2.5 all the way back. like I said, sounds good driving unless I rev over 2500, but she runs a lot better without a clogged up cat on it. I can't really tell you if the backpressure thing made a difference without the cat cuz I got the truck used and the cat was already clogged so of course I was gonna have a torque increase after I replaced the exhaust. I dont think I would ever buy a cherrybomb for anything, I've never heard anything sound good with one. I'm sure if you have a big block anything will sound good on it.

Message: To big a pipe you lose exhaust gas volocity. Back pressure and volocity all factor in. As for the chrome tips, well think of them as a cone shaped megaphone, like a cheerleader would use. And chrome tips are really just decorations. A 4inch pipe with a 2.5inch reducer at the end will not have the same volocity as a 2.5 inch pipe. The 2.5inch pipe will have a greater volocity, and will give you better results. That is just the basics of exhaust gas science, there is alot more to it but lets keep it simple for the beginners out here. So don't waste your time with big pipes on this small of an engine, run the 2.5inch pipe & put a pretty chrome tip on it and call it a day.
