Message: Hey folks,
I have to fix/replace one of the exaust manifolds on my 3.9 Dakota. In you alls experience, would it be worth money/time/effort to replace the left and right manifold with Headers while im at it?
Any/all input will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Message: Hey Larry,
Thanks for the info. All the Headers i can find online say they are for 2wd Dakotas. Do you know any that are specifially for 4wd or will actually work with both 2 & 4 wd?
Thanks dude,

Message: Thanks for the info Larry. I didnt want to purchase ones that said "2wd" on them and have something with the 4wd be in the way.....mind if i ask what headers youre are using?
The only mods i have right now are the V8 TB, and a cold air intake. When i get my manifold fixed/replaced i'll probably put a new Flowmaster exaust on as well..its stock looks pretty bad...hell its 10 years old with 117k miles on it......any recomendations there?

Message: I run the JBA
use a flowmaster 50 or a dynomax 11748
2.5 in out and a factory tail the flowmaster 40
is rather loud
I also tried the dynomax 2 3/4 system and it
sucked loud as hell and lost to much backpessure
hurting the low end stay away from anything over
a 2.5 tail
truckperformance.com has the pacesetter preditor
dual system for under $300 I just put one on my
95 4x4 and love the sound 2 1/4 tails with 3"
polished stainles tips the only thing is get
better clamps to mount the tips comes with all
hardware and bolts right on
I will swear by the dynomax 11748 and 2.5 factory
tail but this pacsetter runs excellent quite at
crusing speed when you get on it over 2000rpm
raps real nice but not overly loud
I would also plan on a set of harland sharp 1.7
rockers with the V8 body cold air and headers
rear wheel gain of 15 to 18hp is average also
helps low end torque
All these mods togather you should get a 30 to 35
rear wheel hp gain easy and around 40 torque
Don't let the 117,000 miles bother you the only
thing hear is you should replace the timing
chain and gears and use the tensioner
All the part #s and directions to replace this
you can find on the dodgedakotas.com home page
under how tos

Message: Awsome,
Thanks for all the great info Larry. Im not sweating the 117k. It still runs like a champ. To be honest the only issues i have besides the exaust leaking out of the bad exaust manifold is a slight rattle under hard exceleration. I cant narrow down where the noise is coming from since it only does it when the truck is moving....i can rev the engine up to 4k rpms and it doesnt make the sound.
Any Ideas on this one?
Im not much of a welder and im kind of intimidated by exaust systems so im going to have the local shop work on the headers and exaust...they are Flowmaster dealers so thats probably what i'll run with. I just have to decide on what headers to get.
once again...THANKS. You've been a huge help.
