Subject: Transmission Pan Bolts IP: Logged
Message: What size are the bolts that hold on the transmission pan on my 98 Dakota 4x2 (42RE tranny). I got a stripped bolt hole causing my tranny to leak like a mofo and need to get a heli-coil kit for it.
By the way... saw Autozone has Valvoline's new ATF +4 there for like $3.29/qt in case anyone's not wanting to pay dealer prices for it (last I knew it was like $6.50/qt...though I'm sure it's dropped some since then...hopefully).

Message: I'm guessing I just overtorqued it, though I really didn't put much "oomph" into tightening it either...all the others went fine, but this one threaded up fine (hand-screwed it in and the threads weren't crossed at all) and then tightened it up with a ratchet. I felt it snug up when it was tight, and then when I went to tighten it down, rather than tightening down, it just loosened for a turn and snugged up again. I cranked for a good 30 seconds on the ratchet and it never "grabbed" so to speak. It's been like that over a year now, but I'm sick of having to add tranny fluid and I'm sure one of these days the city's gonna come knocking at the door furious because of the giant oil spot my truck has left out in the road.
