Subject: MSD 6A ?? IP: Logged
Message: ok, so I can't remember what you guys said to use for the ignition system? I thought it was the msd 6a but I wasn't sure and I'm a bit confused on what else to buy with it for my 96' dak rc with the 3.9L magnum. It's going onto a basically stock engine but other upgrades are coming very soon (like next paycheck)

Message: The MSD6A is the right number, but from the info I got when I asked, the system won't do much good without serious mods. I have an Airaid CAI and F&B TB, but was told that it wouldn't do much for me unless I was going further; i.e hotter cam or such. Get a brass cap and rotor and some good plug wires and you'll be fine.

Message: Yea, don't waste your money on the MSD box, especially with a stock engine. Spend that money towards some roller rockers or throttle body.

Message: Your best honest bet would be cap and rotor from NAPA with brass contacts, A good set of spark plug wires with valconized ends and a good 30,000 volt coil. DO NOT go thinking a 40 or 50 thousand volt coil is the way to go. You would lose high rev performance. You want a coil capable of veriable controled spark and that happens in 30,000 volt coils. Myself I use Champion Truck spark plugs. These do a great job and are actually a cut above the regular champions. You may feel your choice of plugs is as good one. If so live with that. I run my own shop for over 4 years and I'm here to tell you what I'm sujesting makes for a terrific ignition system. I actually prefer it to MSD which I have also run on a few cars in the learning process.
So many problems .... So litte time

Message: I said that backwards. Should read ..... Unless your going to live in hi reves all the time, Talking 8 to 10,000 or so (which I doubt your will) You do not want acoil bigger then the 30,000 which is the perfect coil for all other driving.
So many problems .... So little time
