Message: Is there any down fall to getting a used TB? Whether it be a used V8, F&B 48mm, or a fastman 46mm. Just curious. Thanks for the information.

Message: Well, there are many varied opinions on this site about the V8 TB being used on the V6. Some like it a lot. I found it to be good in the 3500 and up rpm range but a little worse than the V6 on the bottom end. It would depend a lot on the gearing also. If you want higher rpm power then a junkyard bargain V8 TB may be the answer. After talking to Dan at Fastman, it was apparent that he and I shared the same opinion about the low end power loss with the 48 mm TB. I have ordered a Fastman 46 mm TB custom made by Dan and he pretty much guaranteed me that I will be happy with the results after I instal it. I would have to agree that 48 mm is just a bit much for a stock V6. But like I said others are very happy with them and that is all good. If your sensors are good and work well on your truck now, then switch them over and use them on the used TB and see for yourself. Other than that, if the used TB isn't smashed with a hammer or tore up in some way, I can't see a big downside to getting one, just remember how my truck reacted with the 48 mm TB. Expect to lose low end grunt (thats my opinion).

Message: Most trucks the low end will remain the same
some will lose a little on the low end
The fastman and the F&B offer gains from off idle
to redline heres how they stack up
V8 good econo way to go
46mm fastman better
48mm F&B best
The F&B shows a little more torque over the fastman not even noticeable over the fastman but
the F&B does have a little crisper response
Both the fastman and F&B are excellent choices
and are very noticeable as soon as you bolt
them on accross the entire rpm range
I have run both as many of my customers have
besides noticing a little better respose from
the F&B there is now other way to tell them from
one another except on the dyno the F&B always
showed 5 to 10 foot pounds of torque we tried them
on the same motors and that is what we found
The F&B is a little more expensive but this is for
the guy looking to squese every ounce of perf
out of his motor
I run the F&B

Message: If looking in a junkyard, dont forget to look at the Ram Vans, all the trucks I looked at had the TB removed but the vans TBs werent touched. I guess people didnt think about the vans having a 318.

Message: The V8 one I got came off a Ram 1500 of the same year as my truck and I didn't have to change the cables, but the bracket that heald the cables was a little different. My trans cable is a little tighter now.

Message: For some reason, the v6 bracket didn't work, we tried that. When I get home I'll look at the pictures I took and remember why. I can post those pictures if you want, and if I can remember how.

Message: It didn't fit because the bracket had a bend that hit the casting of the throttle body. I also think that the V8 bracket held the throttle cable further from the throttle body.
I noticed with the V8 throttle body:
1- firmer shifts
2- higher top end
I havn't been able to judge the gas mileage change because we're still going through the winter in Manitoba.

Message: i have a polished V8 TB from and i believe its ported to a 50mm, could be smaller i really dont remember, but had it made from a local machine shop along with a 1.5 inch spacer with matching bore size to the TB on my 99 V6.... its great in the low end.... from dead stop ya nail it, it takes off but if your out on the highway and ya get on it, it feels like its laggin... like to much air... thinking of down sizeing it but i like the take off i get out of it from the dead stop....

Message: I have a stock 50mm Holley TB on my '98 V6 4X4 with mild modifications, and the 50 seems to be too big for my engine. I get good highway gas mileage with it, but around town it's not so good. Climbing hills isn't so great either. I think I will look into the Fastman 46mm. When I do, I will let you guys know when I sell the 50mm.
