Subject: v8 swap questions IP: Logged
Message: I'm planning on putting a 383/727 combo into my 89', and have a few questions. Do the 87-90 dakotas have a speedometer cable? Also, do they use vacuum to control the transmissions and not electric shift? Would I be able to get away with keeping the in-tank fuel pump, due to it's low operating PSI, or would I have to install a pressure regulator inline? The main deal is keeping all gauges and electrical performing as they did before the swap.
Also, on a side note, does anyone have some 89' Daytona seats they'd be willing to part with, preferably blue? I'm also looking for an 89' dakota single cab center console.

Message: sounds like one mean Dak when your done mike
i dont know how much pressure that puts out but if its like the 94's (something like 40 psi)
and your going carb. i;d think its going to push past the needle/seat
just curious but have you thought of omitting the intank, run a holley or something right on the inside of frame rail?
their standard runs at 5 - 7 psi
(last i knew) which is just about right
next step has an external regualtor
you cant set yourself

Message: yes on the cable
the trans uses hyd.pressure in the trans to shift and the kick down leakage, only electric is the o/d,no problem here
theres a fuel line on the tank that has a plastic cap on it that is use to drain the fuel from tank,[its on top by other lines]it goes to the bottom of tank, connect your existing fuel line to this and go with a manual pump on the motor[less cost,no pressure problem]if you want to stay with the pump in the tank you,ll need a regulator because these have about 14lbs pressure you only want 5-7lbs with a carb
hope this answers your questions

Message: pumps
carb 7psi
throttle body 15psi
multi port 45 psi
The trans is computer controled and will not even
bolt to the 383 B block unless you get an adapter
from engineswaps.com
The throttle valve on the trans is cable and can
be adapted to the 727
Why not use a 518 and do a conversion
redrider.us has all the parts to do this but you
will still ned the adapter to bolt up the B block
Find a rear with 3.21 and run the 727
Talk with intencedak39 he put a 400 in his dak

Message: Thanks for all the info guys. I'm thinkin the 727 is the way to go. the 518 doesn't have the aftermarket support. I'm not looking to have it be a highway vehicle, I just am interested in tire lubrication.
