Subject: IAT Resistor values IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone tested the temperature and resistance values to alter the IAT? I would like to know what resistors would be needed to fool the computer into thinking the temp is much lower than ambient. Say from +10*F to -20* F. I know there are adjustable set-ups out there but a fellow who works on Superchips programming suggested that I plug in a scanner and find the value of resistance that will fool the computer that the temp is actually around -20*F to advance the timing enough to notice a difference in power. I would have to run a higher octane fuel but that is all the Superchips programmer is really doing beside a few extras as speedo corrections, shift points, rev limiter etc. But for the price of the correct resistor I feel it is worth a try.

Message: Now, if I were to select a 15K ohm resistor and put it in place of the IAT sensor and basically jumper it between the 2 IAT wires, would that make the computer read a constant temperature of around 60* F at all times? The IAT would be out of the picture and the resistor would take its place. Thats what they are selling on e-bay, but does it really work? If not, why not? Or does the coolant temp sensor come into play and knock everything out of whack. I am sure there are some smart guys out there that know the answer.

Message: Larry,Is my relocated IAT alright in the frozen Canadian weather? I have it installed on the downstream side of the drop-in filter just near the top of the factory box before the accordian type hose that enters the air hat. Will it get too cold and trip a check engine light?
