Message: I would disconnect the negative battery cable to be on the safe side. Wait a few minutes then start the replacement process.
I did not have to drop the steering column to get the evaporator case out of my 95.
You can chose to replace the a/c evaporator too while you are in there. Both are located in the same case.

Message: JAY the steering column has to be dropped to get the dash out!. it is no big deal though just unbolt the 4 bolts holding it on and then lay it on the floor, if you are worried about the air bag deploying just pull the fuse as well as disconnecting the negative battery terminal, once the dash is out, it is a peace of cake.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee
