Subject: Genuine Mopar Chip for 3.7L Dakota IP: Logged
Message: Got a 2004 (old body style) Dakota 3.7 Sport Plus, 3.92 rear (So happy I got that), manual, blue, about 2,000 miles. It's my first car and I worked pretty hard to get it. I would like to have a little more power, but don't want to put 91+ octane fuel in it if I can help it (Arizona has some pretty pricey gas these days, and 91 is the best I can get locally), and I would like to find a chip that is warrenty friendly, preferably from Mopar. Any ideas if this is available? I was frustrated by the Mopar website as it is kinda wierd to navigate.
I'm also wondering of the Mopar exhaust is very loud or not. I don't want to make a big statement (AKA piss off everyone around me), but it would be nice if the truck could yell just a little louder when I want it to! ;)
A while back I contacted super chips and Hypertech and both replied that there were no plans to make a performance module for the 3.7L Dakota (that was bout 9 months ago now). I've heard mostly bad things about Jet chips, and I'm not a big fan of cold air intakes.
Anyway I'm not looking for a wild street machine, just a few extra ponies, hoping to gain a little bit of power in overdrive on the highway, as the truck is slightly underpowered in that area/

Message: Sry, not much for us 3.7L guys. Probably looking into waiting 2 or 4 years, before they really start releasing major mods for the 3.7. Just lack of demand in that market area. There are CAI's, Cat-backs (magna and borla), or just swap the muffler, Hughes Engine's ported TB (i believe they state a 10-14HP to the wheels), Jet Chip (stage 1 and 2), removing the clutch fan gives a few and I mean a few ponies. Plugs if you want to change them NGK's or something to your liking. About it if your truck already has LSD and 3.92's. If I miss anything please fill in. KRC has a 3.7 waiting for test fiting of a supercharger and they told me some cams while they are in there. Kennebell had a supercharger the 3.7 but due to lack of demand like I stated earlier they discontinued. It almost gave 300Hp to the wheels (296 I think. In a Auto) so stick would put more out. Got to custom make it or wait like most of us. Good luck. Hope this helps in any way.

Message: yea I was afraid of that- you just confirmed my suspicions. Supercharger is going to have to wait for a little while down the road when warrenty expires and I don't rely on it every day to get my butt around town, and when I actually have the money to drop on a supercharger setup. :-D
I have not heard such good things about Jet chips though. I also thought that Mopar made a dual cat back system for 3.7L motor but I must have been mistaken, as I can't find it anywhere on the mopar site. Oh well, maybe as they start making more Dakotas with teh 3.7 mods will become easier to come by.
Sport plus gave me tire/handling package, I have the "SureGrip" diffrential, so I think I'm pretty set relatively speaking in the suspension department. I wish the tires were a little sticker, but I'm not going to replace them till they wear out.
