Subject: 93 dakota problem IP: Logged
Message: Alright my dakota is "grinding" like the back breaks would be bad...when I turn the sound gets worse....it sounds like it is going in circles so I assume it could be the breaks. But they were replaced in november....so I dont understand why that would be the case...the noise is in the back.
When I back up and ride the breaks to try to get the back breaks to work better it tightens them right up for about two stops lol then it is lose again...I dont know when I am driving straight it sometimes grinds and when I'm turnign sometime it gets louder.
Rear shocks were just replaced. I dont know I think it would be the breaks but iuno why itd be bad this quick I treat the truck good.

Message: Also, Could front shocks be a problem if they are totally shot....bc whenever I turn the noise is there even if it wasnt there prior to turning...someitmes it does it all the itme sometimes it doesnt do it and sometimes it does it when I am stopping or going, but whenever I turn it does it.
If it makes the noise and I jerk the wheel, the noise can go away is why I wondered if front shocks could be a problem. it comes back but the noise stops temporarily if I jerk the wheel.

Message: Reason I asked the question above is when I take off sometimes the rear end "jumps" it feels like the truck is hopping....uncle said it might be U-joints...but theres not much slack in the drive shaft as of a few months ago and it has done that for about a year and a half

Message: It did it all day today when I drove it and it seems like when I stop it didnt help or hurt it, It just sounds like its metal grinding or whatever in a circular mothion so I am thinkign about taking it up to the guy down the street tomarow and ask him if he could check it out...The noise isnt REALLY loud but loud enough to really bug me so I will probly do that tomarrow.

Message: If you have a Posi rear end in the truck it will make a sound like that if the oil back there is in bad shape or you changed it without putting in additive.

Message: standard gear oil is fine for the limited slip (85w-90 I think) The additive can be whatever you want, they are on the shelf at your local parts store, read them and pick the one you like.
