Subject: "New" ECM = sputtering. Help! IP: Logged
Message: I just installed "new" computer on my '89 3.9 4WD.
Until it gets warmed up, it sputters when I let up on the clutch and start out driving for 30 feet or so. It did not do this before I changed the computer. I'm guessing that this is a problem that others have had. Probably some small part that I need to replace.
Thanks.

Message: check your coolant temp sensor, that bugger seams to give a lot of problems during startup. Also, you might want to look into a tune up.

Message: Thanks, I'll try that. I'm planning on getting a tune-up before winter.

Message: the coolant temperature sensor tells the pcm how much fuel to give the engine, based on engine temperature. The pcm uses the reading to richen the fuel mixture during warm up, and when the engine reaches operating temp. the pcm uses the O2 sensor reading to control the fuel mixture. So, that is why it might be malfunctioning.
