Message: sounds pretty typical actually. I added K&N air filter and that helped, but mine's still not a speed demon by any measure.

Message: I have a 95 3.9l 4x4,with a 127,000. Let me tell you it's no powerhouse or a speed demon. Might as well get use to it. My truck dosen't even have the Cat.and I've even tuned it up with the best suff I could buy. It is a very good running truck, and will tow just about any thing. Youjust have to take your time. You have no other chose with the power your laking.

That just ain't right. It might be a little slower than a V-8, but my 92 Dak Club Cab 4x4 with cap can do much faster than this in stock form. That's why I suggested what I did.

Message: No, that doesn't sound right. My completly unmodified 95 with the same motor will still go well over 90 mph - I've got 173,000 miles on it.

Message: my 93 will cruise at 80 all day at less then 1/3 throttle. its all about tuning. get yourself a new timing chain if that hasnt been done, then do the injector sync, put some new plugs and cap and rotor and you should be runnin with the best of em. but im willing to say your problem is timing chain because i had the same problem for a while....was the chain, stretched with over an inch and a half of slack....

Message: I have a 96 5 speed dakota with the 3.9. I run down the highway all the time at 75 with no problems at all, i agree with the timing chain! if you hear any clatter, almost guranteed you need to replace it. I replaced one in my old dakota at 135,000 and one in my 96 at 90,000. The 92 now got over 250,000 miles on it with no problems other then the chain and it had no problems doing highway speeds as well as the 96.

Message: you seriously need to start checking things!
i can run 100 on the highway
pull my boat (18 ft. 140 outboard)
and hell 1500 lbs of top soil for my back yard yesterday
it aint no muscle car but it aint no slug either
whens the last time it was given a decent and full tune up?
(plugs wire cap & rotor)
hows the cat? timining chain? dirty air filter?
only mods on my truck so far
relocated IAT sensor, black magic electric fan
and Dynomax muffler,
(my tune up parts)stock wires borg warn
cap rotor (brass) and NGK-V spark plugs
i just finaly got time to order my roller rockers
now cant wait for the time to install them! LOL
but anyway spend some time on that truck cause you have something wrong
owww an you will also start to lose power when the full pump starts to go so ad checking the fuel pressure to the list
and check the entire exhaust!
a bent or crushed pipe will screw the power up too

Message: I sure wish I could figure out what up with my truck. 3.9l 4x4 Auto. 127,000 miles,Some days it run like you wouldn't belive other days forget it. When your on the open road in O.D. no matter how much fuel you give (on a hill) it just keeps falling back. Only until it down shifts(then its screaming like hell)does it then pick up. The other day I was acellerating easy and I noticed the RPM's flucuating. I love the truck but it's an absolute dog. My gas milg. is only around 16 avg. I tuned it up Bosch wires,Plat. 4 plugs,Brass cap&rotor. Help me please!!!
