I have a 2000 dakota 3.9 auto, 2 wh drive. The engine light keeps coming on and reads I need a throtle control sensor. I've changed this twice and the truck still runs very rough and has terrible acceleration. Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like a wiring/connector problem !!

MAP and ASd have nothing to do with the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

Check the wiring (as already noted) but also check for any wire shorts/crimps from the sensor to the PCM. (Check the connector at the PCM as well - BLACK connector.)

The 1st thing to do is unplug the sensor, check for correct voltage. The second thing you do is unplug the sensor wire from the pcm.(computer) now check all wires with a test light to make sure they are a good connection, no broken, grounded or bad connections.

If you had low voltage at the sensor, check the voltage made at the pmc (computer)

If the pmc voltage is low, the pmc may be bad. The problem is this, many computers share circuits without telling you. Do research to find out what other sensors share that circuit.

Example 3.8 gm. CAM SENSOR CODE, The voltage should be 12 volts but is only 2 volts. A new cam sensor is put in and the voltage is still only 2 volts, many would replace the computer thinking it was bad. The cam sensor and crank sensor both share the same circuit. Even though the wiring diagram does not tell you they do. The problem was a wire exposed and touching ground 2 inches above the connection of the crank sensor. Once this was fixed the car was fine.

Do your research on other sites than this one, you tube has trained auto techs solving your very problem. Your tps sensor could share a circuit with your fuel pressure sensor. a shorted sensor or a short to ground on any sensor on the same shared circuit would show up first as a tps.

"Dead in the water". Replaced coil/crank sensor/dist. pickup. Still no spark! Where should I check voltage etc. at what points??? Also, the wires on the crank sensor were pretty bad. (possible short) Could this have damaged the computer?

My 1992 Dakota 3.9 engine has a rattling sound in the engine. I have changed everything outside, nothing internally. It has 134K miles and runs great. But the rattling at idle drives me crazy. Also, after I have driven a few miles, I notice it on the inside. But when I put it in gear, it stops. What the heck is going on?

I have a 2000 Dakota I recently had tranny rebuilt. Then after picking it up from shop. the oil pressure gauge dropped to 35. then dummy light would chime and oil pressure would drop to 0. if I turn off engine and restart, pressure is back. when taking off in morning pressure starts out at 80, then drops to 35 a couple times. then 0 pressure. I've had sensor replaced twice. thinking it might be faulty. Now mechanic says its my rings and that I need rebuild or new engine.??? I apologize for the long intro message. But I love my Dakota. I do most my own repairs, alternator, ac compressor, power steering pump ,get scheduled fluid changes, ect. plus I've invested a lot of money in it. is there anything else it could be or a cure for it that isn't going to set me back another $3,600.i don't want another truck. I really love and rely on my Dakota. please if there are any suggestions, I would be very grateful. thank you.

I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 engine 2
wheel drive I drove across a culvert and got
caught up in stuck upon getting the vehicle pulled
off of it the EVAP canister under the driver side
door had the hoses pulled off. I could only hook
the big hose back up the small hose I had lost the
rubber fitting I drove it about 6 Mi it started
running rough then stalled and has not started and
stayed running for more than a few seconds then it
stalls right out. I did try to fabricate a hose
fitting to hook the lines back up properly but
they didn't have the natural 45 degree bends and
they may be sealing themselves shut when the
vacuum kicks on
