Message: well, i almost died today...
i was driving down the highway today and it started raining (d@mn, still had my hoosiers on). i have had plenty of driving in the rain with my hoosier so i wasn't that much worried about it. (remember they are 11.5 inches wide and only 3 cuts around them to define tread) it was a 2 lane one way highway and i was in the right lane and there was two cars in the left lane (dodge 3500 cummins desiel in the back). we were spaced so that if i wanted to get in the left lane there was plenty of room but not by much. up ahead the road did a really wide left turn... about a half mile of turn. i started the turn and suddenly the back tires let loose (at 55 mph!)...Holy Sh!T... of course since it was a left turn, my back tires went right...so i compensated with a little right turn of the front wheels. so here i am sliding sideways in my truck at 55 mph for about 200 yards of this turn... i could see the dodge behind me in the other lane start to back off a bit but i soon got traction back... man... that was the biggest high i have ever gotten! got home and changed my drawers... and i am still thinking...WOW!

Message: BlackDakRacer,
i am still a little p*st about that... but give me a week or so, so i can get some moneys...
make it $115 and it will be a done deal... they are still only $113 on ebay for new ones.
stealwings,
they are dot drag tires... they have only 3 cuts around them to be D.O.T. approved... other than that they are a real soft nylon compound. sticky on asphalt but slippery when wet! he he he
they measure 27/11.5/15. my other tires are BFG's...255/60/15, but they are only 7 inches wide.

Maybe you should think about putting a limited "SLIP" diff in your truck, now... instead of the full slip "open" diff you currently have...

Message: Ll Black,
I have a 2WD and i have to be real careful in the rain. I slide all over the place. But, sometimes if there are no cars around i like to floor it around a corner and get a little fishtail going!!! I did that yesterday and ended up almost completely sideways!

Message: Intense-
I did a similar thing in an 89 Nissan Sentra when I was 16. 'Cept I was too young to control it and did a 720 as I slid down the road. Scared the piss and a few other things out of me!!! By some miracle (God was watching over me and laughing his butt off) I stayed on the road! Got out walked around, no nothin'. Just lots of luck!
Ll Black-
Yeah, we have a lot less traction. But as Intense proved and I can now (obviously couldn't at 16, see above), a little experience goes a long way and provides a lot of fun in the long run.
I had another fun trip once where I was racing (against myself) down one of those roads that is real windy and each time you drive it, you push a little further and drive a little faster. I came up on the one turn, hit a bump and left the ground. I had to by new drawers and new seat covers after that. I was looking right into a slew of trees, but the second I hit the ground, tires grabbed and I took the turn w/o a problem.
Why? Experience. I already had the wheel turned cause I knew what was coming.

Message: yeah, i was able to control it pretty good. when my truck was jacked up i use to always take it out to the mudhole and do stupid stuff. i got really good at driving about 75 through this one muddy path that was about a half mile long and 50 yard wide... if i never did that i probably would be a dodge ram hood ornament now.
