Not unless the engine is set up for it:

Advanced Timing, Nitrous, Supercharger, or Higher than stock compression.

However, there are some "fuel boosters" out there (ProBlend and NOS Race formula) that do work and are good for about .2 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

Jet recommends 92 + 180 t'stat with the Stage-II. You can try it but if you notice no gains...stick with 92/93 at most.

HOT Rod magazine just recently tested a 5.9 Ram with 87 and 93 octain gas and guess what Bernd ???? the ram actually got 4.3% more hp to the rear wheels with the 93 octain juice. it aint much but it is some. They also tested other cars and trucks and found that except for vehicles setup for the super high test stuff that they all showed a slight hp gain on a dyno at the drive wheels running on 93 vrs. 87. The car that was setup with knock sensors and required 93 octaine showed a significant loss when running 87 octain. Please make sure you are absulutely correct when saying things on here as I have seen many times you say things that magazines and trade journals publish just the opposite of what you have said.Yes in most cases your advice is probably based on $ vs. results but many times you have said things on here that just aint entirely true.

It all depends on the PCM and engine that came in the vehicle. Most Magnum engines don't require more than 89 but some do run better on 92/93. (And then there's those who "ping" on anything less than 92 octane fuel.) If you look at some of the different models...Durango R/T requires 92 but the Dakota R/T doesn't. (Different PCM programs again.)

The 4.3% comes out to about 8RWHP on the Ram. Taking into consideration that no dyno run is the same (same day, two pulls, +/- 3RWHP)...it could have been the fuel or it could have been the air/engine temp. Hard to say without actually seeing the dyno charts from the before and after.

I personally have always run 92/93 octane in my '97 since day-one. Did it run any better when it was about 90% stock with 92 vs. 89...no. I just like Chevron 92 (Personal Preference). Did it run any better with 92 vs. 89 in the last configuration...sure did (actually required 93).

There's so many variables between vehicles than there is not one 100% correct answer. The general rule of thumb is to look at your owners manual and run that grade...or one grade higher. You can run the high-grade unleaded...but keep a mileage log for about a month and see what happens. If the mileage gets better, it's working. If it doesn't, switch back to one grade lower.

Just some info from API:

* Actual octane requirements of individual vehicles may differ from designed levels. Vehicles are designed to use certain fuels. But due to manufacturing tolerances, individual vehicles, like people, may deviate substantially from the norms for their group. Moreover, how much octane a car needs varies with the conditions in which it is driven--hauling heavy loads over hills requires more octane than driving slowly on level roads.

* Octane rating is not the only way in which grades of gasoline differ. Some additives are more effective than others in minimizing engine deposits, which can build up over time and adversely affect vehicle performance. Some manufacturers use larger amounts of additives in their premium gasoline. In general, additives and other fuel properties vary between gasoline brands and grades.

Most production street vehicles, even high performance ones, are not going to benefit from anything higher than the recommended octane. So it only really becomes an issue if you are unfortunate enough to live in a state that has made unavailable the octane your engine was intended to burn (like California).

In some states Toulene is a controlled substance. One of the cops on there said it can be used for making drugs (crack). Another guy in Texas was using it by the gallons for his race car and the cops did a raid on his house and shop thinking he was making crack he was not. But got a large $$$$ fine for having to much.

The cops are busting refineries all over the country????????
they must be. each refinery makes thousand of barrels daily !!!!
therefore since the guy that got busted probably did not have a storage facility near what the refinery has,
The cops must be busting refineries nationwide for "having to much".
since toluene (correct spelling by the way) is also used as a paint thinner, how many home centers and automotive and industrial paint stores are getiing busted for "having to much"?
Thousands daily I'll bet!

The octane boosters you buy at your local parts stores are fairly ineffective. When they say "increases octane 7 points," what they mean is from 91 (if that's your base octane) to 91.7. That can make a difference, but not nearly as much as adding Toluene (or Xylene) up to 30 percent as mentioned above. A word of advice on that, however. Toluene and Xylene are both very "hot" paint thinners, and therefore also can have a negative effect on your in-tank electric fuel pump and your fuel injectors. Modern gasolines have lubricants in them to keep your fuel pump and fuel injectors happy. If you're replacing 30 percent of your gasoline with an octane booster that has no lubricants you also need to add some lubricant such as Marvel Mystery Oil. Not sure of the exact ratio, but I think it's about 1 cup per tank if you fill up with gas and whichever additive you choose (Xylene or Toluene).
