Hi I got a 98 dak 4x4 with the 3.9 I got a air intake, duals, jet chip, but the dang thing is to slow after leaving a stop. anyone have some good ideas. thanks

Regear the thing. Get something around a 4:10 or lower. Yes it is odd, the higher the number the lower the gear. Electric fan could do some help. Throttle body spacers are junk. You could get a V8 throttle body but a 48mm throttle body is usualy the best bet for a V6.

I have a 00' 3.9 and i was wondering where is the IAT sensor located and where would be a good place to put it...The mods on my truck are K&N CAI, TB Spacer (i know their junk), and a cherry bomb. I have the same problem as adodge4me...I want more power leaving a stop.

a search on here would give you all the details if you need more
its in the intake on the passenger side "front"
2 wires going into it
a 1/4 npt pipe plug from a hardware store
to put in there then drill a hole in your cold air intake tube and just screw the sensor into there, you'll have to extend the wires 4 maybe 6 inches also. this little mod cost so little
and takes very little time
but what a huge difference in performance
if your trucks are getting up in miles timing chain (with tensioner) and new fuel pump
when either or both start to go,
performance starts to drop off

what % hp/performance increase would you see?
does it make a difference with the jet stage 1 installed?

for those of you that have moved your iat to the intake i have a question for you, what kind of mileage are you getting after that? did it drop at all? i know it would read colder and add fuel to the mixture but how much of a loss in mpg did you see?

i didnt see any drop in MPG's at all
though hearing from a few other guys might help
and like i said a real big difference in performance,
for the record i noticed no diff. with a K&N filter, hell i even took it out and drop a new fram (paper eliment) back in and seemed the same to me,

Ight i got a quick question...I have a 00' Dak 3.9 and i have no idea in this world where the IAT is located...i know its on the passenger side but where exactly is it located...I have a K&N CAI and i want to relocate the IAT.

One thing I never see mentioned in the forums is how you can remove a few "weights" for a small increase in drivabillity such as the spare tire, and the rear bumper, thoughs 2 alone are pretty heavy.. A good roll pan for the rear can be found on Ebay for 85 bucks, If you have the towing package and dont use it remove the thing, I know on my v6 I can tell a performance differance even when one person is riding with me eliminating the above mentioned weights would make some noticable power.. just dont get a flat ;).

How to relocate your IAT Sensor
The IAT Sensor is located on the #2 Intake Runner (3.9/5.2/5.9L) or under the Throttle Body, in the manifold (4.7L) - Big Brass looking sensor with two wires (Grayish connector)
Remove the IAT sensor from the manifold and plug the hole with a 1/4" NPT Pipe Plug (Home Depot)
Drill a 1/2" hole in the intake tube and thread the IAT sensor into the hole (use some silicone if you want...not required though) - You may have to extend the wires about 6-12" in some cases (use 16ga. wire)

OK, I'd like more info please. (I have a '99 Club-Cab, 3.9L, auto-Trans, 4x2) I've been reading this and am considering moving the IAT, "To the intake tube???? I've put an 10" Edelbrock air cleaner on the motor and am wondering do I even need to relocate the IAT Sensor? if so where to? Any other suggestions? Thanx

With the 10" air cleaner, relocating the IAT sensor is prolly not a good idea... sure it may help a little bit, but it'd look really corny unless you relocated it somewhere else in the engine compartment and I'm not sure how well the computer would like that.

Thanx Josh. You wouldn't happen to know a site where I could find schematics and specifications on '99 3.9L Dakotas??? or even "good", "better", "best" mechanic books on same??? (Bought the truck 3 weeks ago, am very pleased with it so far. want to set it up to 'RUN' with a good or pretty good MPG. You, and this site, have given some real good ideas. Any others?) Thanx --Doc
