Mines a 96 3.9 ext cab 4X4 auto with the following mods.
1. Intense intake
2. JBA power cables
3. 3923's
4. Flowmaster 50 ser.
5. 180 stat
6. ported stock TB
7. IAT adj and relocated
8. brass cap n rotor
9. Black Mag 150
10. ASP crank pully
11. FMS injectors

She is beginning to "Run like the wind" but I am looking for more low end torque. On a good day I can almost break loose the 30x9.5 MT's (on pavement). I will be doing a 3"body lift and going to 31X10.5's this summer and will need more torque. What would you guys n gals recommend. I am leaning taward the 1.7rr's but have to save some cash. I want the crower stainless.

Did you change your pipes with your flowmaster? If so, go back down to 2 1/2 inch pipes and that will give you back your low end torque. Also, if you are running 355 gears I would go up to 390 ATLEAST, if not 410's. That will REALLY give you back your lowend torque and let you smoke 'em with ease. It will change your MPG but what the heck, we don't really care much about MPG, right? It's all about the power.

Oh, and why are you chosing the body lift over the suspension lift? Are you more interested in "show" than "go"? I'm not a fan of what body lifts do to trucks and I think that the suspension lift is totally worth the money if you plan to hit the trails at all.

Just my 3.9 cents :-)

1998 3.9 ext cab 4x4, 5 1/2 inch Tuff Country lift, 33 x 12.50's, 180 out stat, ram air, turned down SpinTech exhaust, and enough noise to wake the neighbors!

I am going with the body lift due to the cost of the suspension lift. A thousand bucks compared to a few thousand is enough reason for me. I would have bought a Ram if I wanted a truck with hight. I plan on keeping the truck for a long time, and maybe a susp lift in the future will be possible. Bowhunting is my real passion, so Im just looking for a couple of more inches of ground clearence for the woods and the power to get me out of the holes and over the stumps. I only have the muffler, the pipe is the OEM 2 1/5". I am also looking at a Flowmetrics V8 TB to go with the 1.7's. I just don't want to loose any low end.

Simpleman, The V8TB should give you plenty of power but you may want to open up the exhaust a little bit. No more than 2 1/2". I don't think there will be any problem with low-end torque at all. The question is if you have 355 or 392 gears. Bigger gears make a world of difference but are not worth the money for the upgrade unless you plan on going MUCH bigger with the tires.

BlackDAK, my rig is relatively slow due to the oversized tires but I'm remedying that shortly. I haven't timed my 0-60 since it's been raining pretty good here but when it dries out I'll give it a try. Also with my bigger tires I get much worse MPG but I figure I'm pulling down about 12 street and 15 highway with a moderately heavy foot. I can't understand why you're only pulling 11 second runs 0-60? That stage 2 chip should have made a ton of difference. Have you tried relocating your IAT and modifying your TPS sensor? That will help adjust your computer and pull down a little more "oomph". Also, try swapping out your thermostat with a 180 degree instead of using your stock 195, in case you havent already. The lower engine temp will make a difference in generating HP when your running heavy on the throttle.

i have the 180 maybe i have to reset the PCM and let it sit for 10 minutes like somebody said. also i think it might be better then 11 I hit 10 today (or close to it) i seem to do better on small roads, also i think u hit 60 faster if ur tires spin off the line, not sure though. the damn thing will hit third and then down shift back to second if u press to hard. I think if i could floor it in third w/o downshifting i could do it in 10 or less. anyway to prevent downshifting when u floor it?

My truck has the 3.90 LSD and it will pull like a bull. Just not much oomph until 2500 rpm. I do hate that downshifting with the auto too. I was looking at the Mopar performance computer on KRC and am interested that as well.
