hey,
I read a few posts about the belly pan gasket and I have been wondering how you would know if you have a leak? My intake is constantly full of carbon but i assumed that was normal, is it? And what type of symptoms would the motor exhibit that would tell me?

BY INTAKE DO YOU MEAN INSIDE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD?
YOU SHOULD NOT SEE CARBON IN THE MANIFOLD.ITS NOT NORMAL TO HAVE CARBON TRAVEL PAST THE INTAKE VALVES,HOWEVER IF THERE IS OIL IN THE INTAKE ITS
MOST LIKLY LEAKING.MY MANIFOLD HAS BEEN LEAKING FOR A LONG TIME.I DIDNT KNOW THATS WHAT IT WAS
AT THE TIME.WHEN I REPLACED IT,IT WAS BAKED ROCK
HARD AND OIL WAS LEAKING PAST EVERYWHERE.THERE IS
A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF HEAT ON THAT PAN.

93, i would think idle would be up a little and rough. also, oil consumption would be up. if you look down the bore of the TB into the intake you would see a little oil puddling i believe.

well the truck doesnt use any oil and the idle sits right at 400 and is steady. so maybe the carbon build up i see in the intake is just from the pcv valve
