Subject: TV adjustment screw IP: Logged
Message: I had a transgo installed a while back, and it made my shiftpoints really low under light throttle. I tried the TV cable, which did something, but barely noticable. In the instructions for the transgo it says this commonly happens and there's a tv adjust screw near the throttle lever on the tranny. I crawled under the truck and looked around the area of the tv lever for a while and I couldn't find the screw, not to mention it's really hard to move my head much down there. Is this screw even on the outside of the tranny or do I have to open it up?

Message: I just put a transgo kit in my 99 4X4 3.9 about 4 days ago. On my truck theres no screw neat the throttle lever that i saw. The way i adjusted the sift points was to put a slight pre load on the TV cable up by the throttle body. I was haveing the same problems you are talking about befor i ever put in the sift kit. In order to put enought of a pre load on the TV cable i had to bend the bracket on the throttle body just a little toward the fire wall. There should be a white plastic clip that alows for adjustment and locks the TV cable in place.

Message: You don't bend the bracket to adjust, you press the release button in the cable housing at the throttle body and pull some slack out of the cable.

Message: Thanks but I already know about adjusting the cable at tb, but I already have it to where the attachment piece at the end is way off from the attachment stud. If you go too far tigtening it, the throttle lever won't be closed at idle. If that's ok, I'll go further, but I don't want to cause any trouble, I need to find out. About the screw, I have a diagram of it in the transgo instructions, which I think is specific to my tranny (42RE). From what it looks like its on the side of the valve body in the spring retainer piece, but something like this you would change and test in small intervals, and it doesn't make sense that I would have to keep opening and closing and opening and closeing the pan to set it right. Is there anyone who has anymore info?

Message: You said you had some one put the trans go kit in for you, did it make the sift points lower than factory? Does it had a slight hesation between sifts? Does the sift points stay the same no matter how far the gas is pushed? The only bolt that i can think of that deals with the TV cable is the one on the clamp on the leaver that works the vavle. The leaver is keyed (has a flat spot so it only goes one way). When i was talking about bending the bracket i had alreaddy taken all of the adjustment out of the TV cable adjuster would alow. When i did bend the bracket on my truck it did not afect the TB. Which bracket are u looking at and what side of the TB is it on? I dont have my ATSG transmission book with me tonght, let me know about these questions, ill have some more stuff to look up for you. If you can ask the trans shop what all they did and did not do in the valve body of your truck. I beleve the adjustment screw that you are talking about is for the over drive, cann't remember for sure dont have the kit and book with me tonight. But if were talking about the same thing the resistor that came with the kit is suropost to take care of the adjustment in the 42RE. Let me know whats up and ill see what i can find for you.

Message: Yeah, I had my local shop put it in. I could go back to them for help, but I want to figure this one out on my own and it should be simple if I can figure out where this screw is. I'm not talking about on the throttle body, I mean down under the transmission at the other end of the cable is where it should be. The shift points are definitey lower than factory now, and I need to give it a lot of throttle to downshift. I took a picture of the page in the transgo installation manual...

Message: Yea that adjustment would be in side of the trans. You would need to drop the pan and i beleve you can get to it with out removing anything. That one in my trans had blue locktite on it from the fatory. You may need to put some on it when you adjust it. when you drop the pan it should be on the drivers side. Hope that helps you out.
