Subject: Truck won't heat up IP: Logged
Message: Alright, another winter is apon us and once again I still can't figure out why my Dak won't heat up while it's parked. I turn it on, crank on the heat and run back inside to wait for it ot heat up but nothing will happen until I actually drive the truck around for a while, no matter how long I leave it sitting.
97 Dakota
3.9L V6
82,000 miles
New heater core, all vents work.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Message: Put A New 195 Deg. Thermostat In It. If You Had Heater Core Problems And Used Stop Leak In It The New Heater Core Might Be Getting Plugged Up. Try Reversing The Heater Hoses. It Worked On My 96 Dakota.

Message: Hey guys, thanx for the responses. I'm probably going to get a new thermo, see if that works. I back flushed the core last winter, didn't seem to change anything, but I'll give it another go.
and to J&J, would a stuck clutch fan make my compressor keep making a clicking noise when it engages? I thought the thing was supposed to keep running until the cabin temp was reached, but mine just goes on and off all the time, usually in about 2-3 sec intervals.

Message: dodge made the bypass hose bigger which makes it so at an idle not warm up. i dont know if they make anything to help restrict the flow of the water for the bypass hose but you can also put some card board in front of the radiator and that should help alittle bit but wont fix it totaly.

changed the thermostat and the heat still sucks but now the
temp gauge isnt working, also it seems like it doesnt have
take off power, its 4*4 with positive traction rearend the rpm
gauge doesnt usualy go above 2000 when im driving it
unless i try to pass someone on the interstate and the
tranny seems to shift fine. Any suggestions?

Message: Have you tried backflushing the Heater Core? It's a pretty well known problem. Especially if the cooling system has not been properly maintained over the life of the vehicle.
