Subject: Need specifications for sensors IP: Logged
Message: Hi, I need to know the specifications for some sensors on a 1996 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V6 auto 2WD. I am having some issues with the truck and am getting ready to test the sensors with a multimeter, but I need to know the specs the sensors should be within. I need the following:
02 sensors, TPS, IAC (if it has one), MAP, temp sensor, crank position
I tried a search and found nothing, so I would really appreciate it if someone can help me.

Message: I think your O2 sensors are supposed to be anywhere from .7 to 1.0 I could be very very wrong but that's what mine seem to register while the truck is running.

Message: You can use the table to calibrate a IAT adjuster
or check your sensors
There are 3 temp sensors on the OBD systems all 3
function the same way varying the resistance and
changing the signal voltage to the computer.
A quality digital volt ohm meter is a invaluable tool
when checking these sensors.
The best way to check these sensors is on a cold
vehicle going by outside air temp. If its 68 degrees
outside you should read a resistance of 11,370 to
13,610 Now warm your vehicle and again retest
the resistance. 194 degrees 860 to 970 ohms
Incoming Air Tempeture (IAT) fuel & timing
Coolant sensor fuel & timing
Trans Temp Sensor O/D shift
If any of these sensors are bad it will effect
the way your motor runs and how your trans shifts.
Print the table and keep it handy for testing
these sensors.
Here is a table of the resistance readings and
corresponding tempeture
Degrees F--------Min Ohms-------Max Ohms
-4--------------291,490 --------381,710
-4---------------85,850----------108,396
14--------------49,250-----------61,430
32---------------29,330----------35,990
50---------------17,990 ----------21,810
68--------------11,370-----------13,610
77--------------9,120------------10,880
86---------------7,370----------8,750
104-------------4,900-----------5,750
122-------------3,330-----------3,880
140-------------2,310-----------2,670
158-------------1,630-----------1,870
170-------------1,170-----------1,340
194--------------860-------------970
212---------------480------------540
248---------------370------------410
O2 .2 to 1, .3 to 1.1 must flip flop back and
forth, .1 to .9 any of these would be fine
Map .5 to 4.8 depending on vac
TPS same
can not be over 4.8

Message: Kevin, most all of your answers are in any good repair manual. You should even think of going under the hood unless you have one.

Message: thanks for the help..ok,. so what is considered a good repair manual? The $15 Haynes one, or the $70 Dodge one? heck, if i'm gonna fork out that much for a book, might as well take it somewhere and let them diagnose it for $50. I plan on dumping this thing soon for either a Chevy 1500 or a Ram 2500 with a Cummins anyway.

Sounds like a personal problem. Mine shows the exact chart for temp/resistance that Larry went to all the trouble to provide. It also gives the expected voltage reading from the other sensors. Which other item couldn't you find by yourself?
If I had my book handy, I would be glad to provide the page and paragraph numbers for you.
