Message: My AOD isn't shifting to OD (4th). The AOD is activated by a push-button on the dash. On the other hand, it doesn't downshift when I turn it off either. Please help.

Message: OK heres how it works, every time you shut the truck off and restart the o/d is turned on,
so if you want the o/d off after starting push the button,a light should came on under the button telling you the o/d is off,
or the light off telling you the o/d is on,
88 is the yr they[dodge] started putting the o/d trans in,some 88s had o/d,some did not,
have you had this truck long and has the o/d worked for you before?if not maybe someone put a 3spd trans in instead of the o/d trans before you got the truck,
or it could have the wrong pcm or the switch may be bad

Message: I only count 2 shifts when the OD switch is on (light is off).
I just bought this truck today. My fear is that someone may have put a 3 speed trans. in it, my hope is that something simple is wrong.
What is this PCM you mentioned?
Thanks,
Dan

Message: the pcm [computer]it reads varies info from the sensors and adjust fuel and timming, also shifts o/d,torque convertor lockup etc[pass.front fender, under hood]
take it to a dealer or good trans shop a tech should be able to tell if it got the o/d or 3spd trans.the o/d trans are about 6" longer.

Message: Crawled under the truck today, good news, the two wires going to the plug in the tailstock of the tranny are ripped and there's about 6" missing. Also the single wire on the ?proportioning valve? is also ripped. Hopefully this will get the problem solved. I go for an Etest with the old bitch tomorrow.

Message: had this same problem, what was wrong with mine was the speed sensor was out. it's what the speedometer cable connects to on the transfer case. the only way i could get this was through the dealer and cost about $149. found out this is a common failure. goes out around every 30,000 miles or so.

Message: Repaired the wires to the plug above the speedo cable on the tranny tailstock and now I have my 3-4 shift working PERFECTLY!! The old shatwagon passed the Etest today too. I've had several F150's, but this Dakota (so far) has been nice to work on compared to them; I think I might enjoy owning this truck.
