Why in the hell would my check engine light come on, or chrysler calls it a M.I.L. How do you find out what error code number it is?
What do I do. I don't want to take it in to Dodge and they find something wrong that isn't covered under warranty.

it might be a code for random misfire. assuming you still have a stock coil/ign system. it may not be able to put out enough power for that big of a gap..
Try this to get the code(s) It does not work on all dakotas, it did not work on my 98 but it works on my 00.
Without cranking the truck turn the key like this....
after the first click of the igniton switch (the steering columun unlock positon, where the {P R N D 2 1} gear selector illuminates and you can move the shift lever)
Like this;
on/off/on/off/on
then in your odomiter it will say the code(s) It says P-DONE if there aren't any codes, or after they are all listed... the code will come up like thos P0300 is random misfire. 301 through 308 (306 on a v6) is for misfinring in a specific cylinder (PO303 = misfire cylinder#3)
hope I helped
post the code here, and I (or someone else) will look it up for you....
