Subject: 92 V6 Shuts Off Redux IP: Logged
Message: Thanks for a great website and great answers!
But, now I am confused. These are the symptoms:
runs good for 10 to 30 minutes; shuts off ASD & fuel relays stores no codes, check engine light goes off, when it comes back on it will restart. Will restart in a few minutes.
This what i have done: replaced ASD &fuel relays; coil, throttle position sensor and redid connections under ASD power box and checked loose connections.
Question: If it is the o2 sensor or EGR wouldn't i get a code? If it is the fuel pump why does the computer and relays go off?
Hope someone can help this is driving me nuts.

Message: Been chasing same problem finally decided to replace fuel pump. I think the computer doesn't
sense the proper pressure and turns off the ASD circuit. My replacement pump from auto zone needs to reuse a couple of parts from the old pump. One part looks like a pressure regulator
it has a ball bearing and a plastic piece acts like a check valve or pressure release. connects to a vacuum hose must go to a sensor. I broke this piece got to get one from dealer.

Message: Thanks, Kevin. Have you had any problems since? Just got back from the parts store and saleman says about same thing, but I can't find any fuel pressure sensor in the Hayne's manual and don't understand why this would shut off the fuel pump relay. Was going to buy a guage for forty dollars but i think i will take it to a shop instead.

Message: My 95 died completey, turns out there is a 3 way splice in the wireing harness. I have heard of other Dakotas earlier than mine with the same problem. Under the power ditsrubition panel there are three red &white wires in a pigtail splice. They are hot all time and are taped only with no other proction. When the tape gets damp elecrotices destroys the copper under the tape, also the service engine light does not come on nor does fuel pump come on. Gerry Good luck
