Subject: Annoying chirp/squeak IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
I'm having a hard time trying to isolate this annoying chirp from the engine compartment. It does not do it in idle, it only seems to happen in gear starting around 18 miles an hour. I've replaced the crap Kelly belt I had on there with a Gates. I also replaced the tensioner (which was shot). Still squeaks/chirps. When I had the belt off I spun all the pulleys and the only one which felt a little off was the power steering. Does this ring any bells that the power steering pump may need to be replaced? By the way it's a 99 V6 Dak. Thanks!

Message: Are you sure your problemis under the hood. I had a similar noise that turned out to be bad u-joints in the front driveline. You may want to check your joints if you think the noise might be from that area.

Message: I had chirping noises from under the hood too. It only happened when the tempatures start to drop in the fall, and would stop when it warmed up in the spring.
I discovered it was the fan clutch. After the clutch would disengage, and allow the fan to freewheel it would make the chirping noise. I sprayed the area where the fan rotates in the clutch with WD-40. Haven't heard any noise since. Just my .02 worth.
