Subject: How much HP does your 3.9 have? IP: Logged
Message: Anyone know how much HP the stock 3.9L engine puts to the wheels? Also, what is everyones 3.9L HP rating. I'd like to know how much of an HP gain I can get if I just put a little work into the engine. Thanks!

Message: They are rated at 175/230 at the crank
Most dyno between 100 to 140 at the wheels average
around 120 RWHP
Mine is sitting at 179 at the wheels
cold air intake bigger throttle body and the 1.7
roller rockers are some of the best mods to do
exhaust being the last thing you would do first
get more in than worrie about getting it out, just
going with a dynomax or flowmaster 50 will improve
gas mileage and perf
Than improve the fuel delivery with a set of FMS
injectors
Now improve the ignition, MSD6a and a MSD E-Core
coil and some good wires to handle the 40,000
volts
Now your ready to do the exhaust, headers high
flow cat

Message: Larry how much power is your stroker putting down to the ground??? I know you've had to have gotten it good and broken in by now and done atleast 1 or more dyno's :)) Last I heard you had a little over 300 on the engine, but I'm pretty sure that was before your last upgrades...
I wish there was a dyno around me so could go and have mine dynoed to see just how much all of my little mods have helped...

Message: Will, You may think that your 3.7 at 210hp is alot if your 3.7 is connected to a 2 wheel drive system your rear wheel horse power-rwhp is 168 rwhp at best. If your 3.7 is connected to a 4 wheel drive system you will get 157 rwhp at best. Larry's 4x4 3.9 is putting out 179 rear wheel hp that translates to 238 hp at the crank thats 28 hp more than your 3.7 thats impressive to me.

Message: Hey, Larry... What if I went with Crower rockers? Would I also have to change the camshafts? If so, would Crower camshafts compliment the Crower rockers well? Would it be worth getting Crower rockers and Cams or just getting Harland Sharpe rockers alone? What will new cams do as far as more power? Would new camshafts and 1.7 Crower rockers lift my valves too much and for too long? Thanks!

where the heck do you get this from??????????
if he is in 2 wheel drive the rear hp no matter 2X4 or 4X4 is the same with the same engine/tranny combo dorkface.
there will be some diff if he is in 4X4 BUT it will be made up with the additional power that is not getting to the rears as you claim WILL make it to the front. What a clownfaced Bozo.
Never heard so much BS untill coming here and reading what self professed "EXPERTS" write.

Message: I don't know about the difference between the 2 wheel drive tranny and 4 wheel drive, but I have seen with Dodge, that they rate their towing with 4x2 and 4x4 and the 4x2 can tow more. Does this mean it gets more HP not really, just thought I would throw that out there. The 4x4 rating is not in 4 wheel drive, just with the 4x4 option.

| RE: How much HP does your 3.9 have? IP: Logged
Message: I think he was referring to the fact that a 4 wheel drive whether in 2 wheel mode or not will make less hp because of the simple fact that the power has to come out of the tranny and then through the transfer case before it can go to the rear wheels... AND there is always a slight loss in hp due to the simple fact that it has to be transferred through more gears = more friction and a slight more strain on the engine... So theoritically it should be a slight less amount in power... BUT I'm pretty sure the 3.7's with a 5 speed dyno out to about or around 170 to 180 at the rear wheels...
The reason a 2 wheel drive can tow more or rather rated to tow more is simply because the companies figure up tow ratings a little like this... Weight of trailer - weight of vehicle so therefor the 4x4 weighs more and can tow less, this also applies to gross chassi weight or how much it can haul cargo wise...

Message: Horse power has nothing to do with transmission or gear ratio. These are torque multipliers.
For example only: say a car with 100 hp can go 100mph max, no matter what trans or gear ratio it has it will never go faster with that HP.
Changing transmissions, tire sizes, gear ratios, only multiply or devide the torque. So the vehicle will accelerate slower or quicker.

Message: It will also change rear wheel hp... You don't beleive that than go and put in some lower gears "as in higher numbers such as 3:92, 4:10 and so forth" in your truck and dyno it before and after... You should notice a definate hp increase at the rear wheels along with torque...
Now hp and torque never change at the engine or crank unless you change something on the motor, but it will at the rear wheels with gear swaps and so on...

After drinking cheap beer, eating broccoli and sauerkraut and great northern beans I find that one good fart acts much like a shot of NOS! When I release the hounds the engine screams like a bat out of hell and I rocket down the highway! But unfortunately my particular type of fogger system is only good for a few seconds at a time.
