Subject: Beat a Hemi? IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone, just wanted to spread good news about a 6 beating the new Hemi.Bigger is never always better. To the story, this guy was hot rodding his 1500 Hemi all around me, so I figure show this guy what he doesnt have. We hit a red light, and I gave him a car length ahead. I wasn't thinking at the time, that is might not be the smartest decision I've done, mind the fact that this was the first public street I was going to race on. But its a bit longer than 1/4 mile. So I reved at 1.5k so that I wouldnt spin my tires much. It hit green and I dropped the clutch and just flew in front of him. 2nd, 3rd, (while keeping it under 4k, its a new truck and only had over 300+miles, on it) Not smart racing it with that few miles and way. Its one of those things where you get suckered in and have to shut peoples mouths for talking bigger than what their truck can do. So I decided to let my truck hit 5.2k in 3rd so feel the power of this motor. Man it felt like a 75 shot of nos. Just gave me a boost feeling. Then into 4th, and I missed 5th. Still learning how to shift in a fast mannor. By that time I was 2-3 cars in front of the hemi and was pass the 1/4 mile mark. So I started to slow for on coming traffic from crossing streets and I didnt want a ticket. And this a-hole blows by. Then when I get to the next red light He roles his window and says,"You lose" I was like "Dude, I smoked your truck" Then he replied "Watch out its got a Hemi" twice. Then he trys to peel off while turning in his truck, Unsuccessfully. But thats how it went down. I was proud of what my truck put out for me. Specs = 04 RC 3.7 5spd w/ 3.55 gears. His = 1500 Hemi Ext or Quad Cab, not sure. So thats my story, and it was one of those days, no one was there to see it, so all my friends had to go off trust. But they have seen me take another Hemi, with my old truck into 3rd but it beat me at top end. 00 RC 3.9 Auto.

Message: Bigger isn't always better. And alot has to do with the driver. There are 4 cylinders pushing 400 horses.
a hummer h2 beat's a mustang gt off the line everytime. more of the power hits the road and the hummer will move while the pony spins. But after the first few seconds, the pony is gone.

Message: Yeah, a lot has to do with the driver. The alleged hot stick gave away a length at the start and went on to say he short shifted, and missed 5th. He also stated he was still learing about shifting "mannor". Maybe he should learn about correct spelling while he's at it. The Hemi guy could've been every bit the goober he was said to be, but that's the only way our "hero" could've pulled off the win as he claims.

Message: First off, don't you have anything better to do besides be an a-s-s? Probably not. Plus, the only one doing any driving was me. All you do is stomp on the gas in a auto and steer. I didn't say I was your hero neither. I can pull it off again and again, with any stock Hemi. And about short shifting and missing 5th, just shows that when I break in the truck and improve on my last gear. I'll be further ahead of that truck. I didn't post a question in the article asking do you believe me or not, cause frankly, I don't care. So just shut your mouth. This board would flow a lot better without all of the jacka-s-ses

Message: I'm personally not going to say that he made up the statement, because to begin with that wouldn't make much sense since obviously everyone on here would laugh and deny that he could have ever beat the hemi...
Horsepower isn't everything in any race as everbody knows... Shifting and weight are probably the two biggest players in this one as we all can tell... The hemi may have 110 extra hp not to mention an extra 80 foot pounds of torque, but it also weighs how much more??? The full size ram plus the fact that it's "4 door???"
or extended cab... Was probably more than likely 4 wheel drive "allthough not stated", but I'm assuming so, because why would you get a big truck and not have 4 wheel drive??? The engine weighs a whole lot more in the hemi along with the tranny... Wheels are a lot bigger "takes more to turn them over"... The hemi was an auto, which unless it had a shift kit is always second to the stick "of same make and size vehicle"... The hemi more than likely had a high gear ratio to make up for the more fuel consumption of the bigger V8...
The hemi may have also had a problem with it or poorly maintained for all anybody knows... I know a lot of people who I've talked to who have the hemi or went out and bought the first hemi's turned right around and traded them back in, because they were nowhere near the truck that they were advertised to be... They had pathetic take off's, didn't pull worth a flip, and were only getting about 8 to 10 mpg at best...
All I'm trying to point out is that there are a lot of factures into play here that a lot of people probably aren't realizing and maybe, just maybe the smaller truck DID beat the bigger one... I've personally never raced one myself, but who really knows when it comes right down to the point...

Message: What's the matter Buttercup? Guess I hit pretty close to the mark. No, you didn't post a question, you posted a self-serving line of BS....Look what I can do without trying. Like I said, we don't know if the Hemi guy was an idiot, or maybe stoned. Who knows, but before you start telling others to shut up and call them names because they dispute your rediculous claims, you better remember that such rants are typically seen by others as the frustrated cry of little peckerhead losers that seek to boost their self-esteem by posting just such a story as you did. Can we say penis envy, or in your case, Hemi envy?

Message: Thanx, Greg, he summed it all up for me, weight is a huge factor on racing. And gen1dak...HA, to you last post. Why dont you buy a Hemi and I'll smoke that then out of the factory. Call it whatever you wanted, I dont need a boost of self-esteem, I know what I can beat and what will kill me, the Hemi Ram is not one of them. Hemi envy, I hardly think so, that motor is not what they make it seem. The "Orignal" true Hemi, would, no doubt in my mind, blow my doors off. They need to re-think this motor, or just bore it out, heard the maxium it 30 over.

Message: going off the #s given here on this post-
dak v6- wt.3714,hp235=15.80hp to wt ratio-
12.58lb of torque to wt ratio
ram hemi-wt.5995,hp345=17.37hp to wt ratio-
15.80lb of torque to wt ratio
given this the hemi ram would win-wt,hp and torque not being a factor
knowing this there is only a few ways the dak could win=
driver in ram did,nt know or did,nt want to race on this street, truck not running right, driver what-ever etc
then theres-sometimes your just lucky

Message: GB2000 - the correct numbers on the 3.7 are 210HP at 5200 and 235LB/FT at 4000. I own the same truck. Yes it is fast. Would it beat a hemi? Doubtful!! It would probably run with a 4X4 quad with 3.55 gears. I find it hard to believe that it would lay waste to that heavy truck. I sure a 1500 RC SB hemi ram with the 3.90's would lay waste to the dak. The hemi 1/4 mile times have been established. The only 3.7 dak times I have seen is from some other kid on this board that ran low 17's. I know the 3.7 dak is faster than that. I would imagine the Dak might run high 15's with the right driver.

Message: O.K. Lets figure RWHP. Average loss for a manual trans is around 15% and loss for the auto is around 22%.
3.7 V6 210/235 at the flywheel is roughly 178 rwhp and 199 rwtq. On a 3714 lb vehicle you are looking at 20.86 HP ratio and 18.66 TQ ratio.
5.7 Hemi 345/375 at the flywheel is roughly 269 rwhp and 292 rwtq. The hemi quad 4X4 weight approx 5400 lbs which equates to 20.07 HP ratio and 18.49 TQ ratio.
Basically against a 1500 4X4 quad with the same gear ratio (which consistantly run high 15's) would be close with the edge going to the hemi even if your are an exceptional driver.
The 4X2 RC SB Hemi. You would not even be close. They consistantly run high 14's Stock.
