Subject: Lowering, Help!?? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1994 dodge Dakota and I am planning on lowering it. I want to drop the front approximately 2 in. I was looking at many different kits available and have been weighing my options. I have found that most kits come with drop spindles and the stock springs are still used. I felt the ride might not have the racy feel I wanted with the stock springs, so I looked into dropped springs. I am thinking of using a 2in dropped spring and retaining the stock spindle. Is this ok to do or will it mess up my suspension/ steering geometry. All the kits tend to contain the spindles so I thought that the spindles might be better but I talked to others and they said dropped springs will give the truck a better feel.
I am also concerned that the 2 in drop via springs will cause the bumper stop on the A-arm to bottom out prematurely but I am also worried about the tire hitting the inner fender with dropped spindles. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Message: Drop springs work fine on a Gen III truck, I imagine they would work as well on a II. Because the springs are shorter, they have to be stiffer.
A 3" drop on a III requires a smaller bump stop.
A 2" drop either way should not make your tires rub, unless you have significantly non-stock size tires.
