Message: I'm not sure about the 2002, but i just changed the knob on my 2000 the other day. I ended up slicing up the side of the knob with a razor it poppped off and there was a nut underneath viola.
I thought it would screw right off. I did hear that the very top of the knob is actaully a cap that can be pryed off. Mine did not look that way but who knows i threw the damn thing out. I am VERY happy with the B&M T-Handle i replaced it with feels kind of 60's hot-rodish

Message: I recently bought a Hurst competition shifter and wanted to keep the factory knob (I have my reasons) but I found out that the shift patern indicator is a cap with a retaining rim around it. The knob "Ball" if you will is a soft rubbery type substance it is possible to get the cap out with out destroying the knob it just takes alot of careful prying around to finally get in under the thing.
Later, Middy
