Subject: painting 4.7L intake manifold.

subject sums it up. If I were to paint the 4.7L intake manifold. would I have to use engine paint?

or being that it is plastic would I be able to use a basic enamel since the heat shouldn't be as bad as a metal intake.

i have used basic enamel on aluminum intakes... so i dont see why it wouldnt work on plastic.

i have even used regular paint on valve covers without any problems.

Use any good paint specifically designed for plastic, like that new Krylon stuff. Like anything else, surface prep is the key.

When the EGR passages traveled through the intake manifold, hi-temp paint was required. But after running the engine for a while, feel your manifold, it will be pretty cool. There's not enough heat there to matter.

I didn't think that the 4.7L motor had an egr valves in 2000?

he is saying that "when" they had them. Some of my parts on my big block are painted with regular Dupli-Color Intense Pearl Blue but they get pretty hot;

* aluminum valve covers
* alternator bracket
* iron water pump/housing

the housing i first painted with flat black engine paint to try to help out with the intense... and so are everything is okay with them. The valve covers were powdercoated black from the factory and i painted them with the intense blue.. sanded, then shot with a LOT of clear coat. One i used high temp clear coat while the other i forgot and grabbed the wrong can. The clear has burned off of it where it sits really really close to the passenger's side exhaust manifold... but the intense is still okay.
